All I can say is not allowed on the site! I've never in my days of Case ownership seen anything like that. Like you said Dave they are Cast Steel, so they can be welded but still a lot of work. Maybe you can find a replacement.

Sorry Harry , not sure what you mean by this .
If the solid pin was not welded solid on both side I would remove for better look . I have never seen the like of this on a Case from any of the sights .

@DavidBarkey see if holds at all or I'll give you an axle from the parts tractor I got in Wainfleet that I was thinking to make an articulated something,

Wow...that's some serious carnage. Can't imagine what would have caused it (maybe what Spike described - also crazy!) Welding the pin is the icing on the cake.
Sad that some of these machines have lived such a hard and abusive life. One of my 444's is a little rough around the edges, glad most of its abuse was spared and taken by the blade it came with (I'd never seen something with so many weld repairs before). Was glad to find another blade with a more intact mount.
On the other hand I doubt that there's a single "lawn and garden tractor" on the market these days that would last with even 10% of the damage Dave's machine did. Or would it be possible to fix it yourself if that were the case.

I think that's a good plan. You're definitely right, that pin is not going to be any fun to get out. But if you need to, now is the best time with the tractor stripped down.DavidBarkey wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 6:09 amYa , I think when I have more of it stripped down I will do a static load test with 4 ton porta power. If it is good , great . If it breaks I will know where I stand .
Dave
If axle weld passes the test, I know you'll never abuse it enough to break it, or where the pin out.
It's never easy.
no more mow it's time to blow

He's clearly on the mend Harry, as I keep trying to tell Dave that one of my tractors was left at his place and he forgot about it due to his head bang, but he said no such thing happened. There goes my attempt to take advantage of his memory loss

Re: Holy mother off repairs Batman
1/4" #30 chain max work load 1300lbs / minimum breaking 5200lbs as per charts
Did not go to max on Pp ( 4ton) , stopped when chain started to stretch .
Passed the stress test . Who ever did it Knew what they were doing . I just wish they hadn't welded the pin in .
Good enough for me .
