I bought a set of those strap wrenches from Harbor Freight about 20 yrs ago. Threw them in a toolbox as a "just in case" item. I went to use one about a year ago to hold the collar of a drill chuck that was being stubborn. First time I've ever used it! And the rubber strap had apparently deteriorated with age, and it snapped right half in two!
So I dug around and found my other strap wrench, a used one I found at Goodwill. Made by Ridgid tools some time in the... 60's? Cast iron handle, with a cotton canvas strap. And it got the job done without the slightest drama.
So just an observation: the cheap Chinese models are "time-limited." If you genuinely need a strap wrench on-hand, then find a real one: steel or iron handle, with a cotton or poly based webbing/strap.

Not me Dave, Valentine's day is not something we grew up with as it didn't existed and I refused to adopt it. You will be the one getting roses for your
@thebuildist you're on to something but let's keep things in perspective. The strap wrench I have is a large size, cast aluminum handle and poly strap. Handy for holding the flywheel to undo the big nut on the crankshaft, not so much for jars. The rubber ones on sale here for $6 would be fine for small jobs and jars and last a few years, I mean what should I expect for $6? If you really wanted you could even replace the rubber strap with nylon or whatever. That being said, one thing that I find very unpleasant is the fact that many of these cheap tools break too easily, on the first few uses. It bothers me to fill up the yard with these "disposable" tools. Not only, but the "middle" class of many tools is not really predictable in quality. Either is cheap c r a p that breaks immediately, or you pay medium and might get lucky, or pay premium and get quality.

Sorry guys but all of you are youngsters! does that make you feel any better. At 75 I can tell you for sure every bone, every joint aches..Even picking up a 5 gal can of gas is an issue. Just bought a pump for my can and located where I don't need to move it too often even persuaded my son to move it to it's home. Drive the GT up alongside. Remove the gas cap and install the hose, press the button and wait for the gas to stop flowing! Heaven guys...
