Re: Davis 100 backhoe cylinder seal kit
Harry,
Take a look at the parts manual for the D100, there have been several different cylinders used for each location an each take different seal kits. There should be a number on the base of the cylinder to help identify. Unless mistaken, none of these kits are offered by Ingersoll anymore but should be available from a Case Construction Equipment dealer. If there is not one in your area, let me know as I have one that I work with for these items.

Re: Davis 100 backhoe cylinder seal kit
The manual shows a variety of cylinders used. Mine is the Lantex glad retained by threaded cap. There three different cylinders that have threaded caps and the internals is what is different. I may have to take one apart to see what the seals and wipers which are different. I took the hoe bucket curl cylinder off today and will look carefully to see if I can find any identification. I've rebuilt two bucket curl cylinders for the loaders which were a pain because of the spiral retaining rings. With the threaded caps it should be much easier. Some hydraulic companies like Grizzly may also be able to supply the seal kits. If anyone had already been down this road before, I thought their input would help cut to the chase.

Re: Davis 100 backhoe cylinder seal kit
Harry, This is the manual I used on my Davis D100.
https://manuals.ccigt.com/PartsManuals/ ... marked.pdf
A local hydraulic supplier measured the bores and groves on the rod ends, glands and caps to then supplied all of the wipers, wear rings, backer rubber, o-rings and seals off of the shelf. Unfortunately his numbering system does not convert to other suppliers. He did order a few o-rings for the valve body.
Another hydraulic supplier formed cylinder tubing which run inside the boom.

Re: Davis 100 backhoe cylinder seal kit
Thanks Spike. Yes that manual is the same one that I have. Two companies that I took my bucket curl cylinder to said they don't work on cylinder that small. So I ended up doing the rebuild myself. I did find out that one place has a guy that picks up cylinders and gets them rebuilt and then returns them. I figured then your dealing with a middle man so I would do them myself.
Thanks for everyone's help!

Re: Davis 100 backhoe cylinder seal kit
They're really not bad to rebuild if it is just the seals. If they're scored or need new rods it becomes harder to do yourself.
Finding them good, old-school repair guys is getting harder and harder. We use to have a old guy that would fix/rebuild anything. You couldn't walk through his shop, don't know how he found what he needed or worked in there, but if you dropped something off he'd have it done in a day or two. Always said "let's see what we can do with this". Now most places just want to sell a complete new cylinder if it's not a simple fix. If it was simple I would have done it myself.

Re: Davis 100 backhoe cylinder seal kit
The hydraulic shop in Buffalo near me where I get all my hydraulic fitting had a guy to rebuild cylinders working for them. He retired last year and now they can't find anyone who wants to do that job. The skilled trades jobs are getting very hard to find qualified people.

One of the go too sources of odd hydraulic and pneumatic parts in this area retired last year and sold to a bigger company. The new company just brushed off requests for metric parts. Their counter staff did not know the difference between British straight thread and National pipe thread. One of the regional suppliers did not stock a 3/8 npt water separator with filter. Their alternative was a 1/2" bushed down to 3/8 for just over $250.00. The o-ring supplier in my earlier post, 30 minutes away, carried and sold a 3/8 unit for under $50.00. When he closes it will be game over for quality parts and service here also.

Since you travel often to Toronto you might have a good chance to find a good store there or on the way right?Spike188 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 11:12 am One of the go too sources of odd hydraulic and pneumatic parts in this area retired last year and sold to a bigger company. Re: Davis 100 backhoe cylinder seal kit
Today I removed the cylinders on the 644 lbh. It wasn't to bad of a job, but have a lot of clean up to do. This is a 48 year old tractor and the cylinders on the how probably have never been off before. A lot of dirty crap filled oil came out of them, si it's an excellent time to drain the whole hydraulic system.
I've got a seal kit tracked down from a hydraulic shop in Wisconsin. Bill Aschliman from Barneveld got the contact for me. I will post all the info on it once I have it in my hands. Now to get down and dirty and clean this hoe up!
