Off ya go snowthrower. !

Post by propane1 »

So a little done today. Not snowing out, thankfully. Got the snowthrower off the Case 224 today. Wrestled the 200 lb or so thing to a pallet. And stored away. But maybe moved to a small barn for summer storage.
224 will now get greased and a oil change. And a general look over. Then the mowing deck will go on. And some time during the summer will be hooked to the hydraulic wood splitter.

It’s a bear to get off and on. Pretty well a two person job. The blower on this tractor is much heavier than the Case thrower. Ford LGT tractor is next in line. Blower will get stored in the little barn with the Case thrower. Same treatment for the tractor, But it does not run the wood splitter.

Any body want a poulan chainsaw, ?????????, come and get it. Extra saws and parts. Don’t miss out. Free.

I appreciate the offer Noel, but I seem to remember something about those chainsaws. I think I’ll pass and let someone else have fun! :giggle: :giggle:

Poulan, oh yes I remember it well. After two years the engine siezed up. I gave it away and bought a Stihl. :peace: Harry

Poulan is assembled in the :usa: with pats from over seas . owned by Huscavarna , being there econo brand . The biggest problem with them is the soft parts in the fuel system are not made to stand ethanol in the fuel . The same for most off shore stuff where they do not put ethanol in the fuel yet . I can tell you from doing drive clean repair for 17 years that is does NOT reduce emissions under load . Because there is less energy in it , it takes more throttle pressure to maintain rpm under load negating any benefit . What is does is screw up older vehicles that are not made to run it causing people to get fed up and forcing people to buy new . I will leave you to pounder why .
You may keep the change .

Thanks Dave. I didn’t have to ponder too long.
Every thing that burns gasoline that I own burns high test gasoline. Nowadays, who knows what any gasoline has in it now. High test was suppose to be ethanol free at one time.

Here in the US, high test is the least likely to be ethanol free as it is the easiest (cheapest) way to boost octane. Fortunately, I now have two stations within 15 miles that offer 91 octane ethanol free gasoline sold as rec-fuel.

@DavidBarkey I believe your thoughts are exactly correct.

I don’t know the history of Poulan I’d bet there have been company acquisitions, changes and so on over the years. I do remember my dad buying one probably 40 years ago and it ran fine for decades. I’ve got one up in the shop that’s got to be 30 years old and it’s just recently started to show its age and just about give up. I’m sure it’s like a lot of other things now, much lower build quality in an attempt to gain more profit or just planned obsolescence.

We do have a couple of gas stations around here that sell non ethanol gas. I will say I’ve been very happy with the battery powered weed eater my wife got me. It’s has lasted 3 seasons now and is still working fine. It’s much nicer than grabbing the old one and have to fiddling around with it for an hour to get it started.

Check for the sticker stating ethanol free . And remember that the first couple of litres / quarts you pump is what the last guy was pumping .

They use to have those ethanol free stickers on the high test, and that’s for sure. The first few litres are what ever is in the hose. And what pevs me off is your paying the high test price for more than likely low test fuel. I know its not a lot of money, just pevs me off.

After using the STIHL 2-cycle oil, the results were horrible. The whole thing was loaded up with a gummy film to the point it was choking off the weed wacker, so I switched to Amsol. That cleaned the engine out very well. And, the reason I mention it is because with the Amsol, I have never had a dirty or fouled carb either. I only use my 2-cycle stuff once or so a year. I also do not burn a gallon of pre-mix in a year, and that runs the engines just fine.

As for the caster on my tractor, I spent way more time putting everything on the tractor than I did clearing snow. Part of that includes mounting the cab and seat motors to the caster, because I don't have an indoor cover for the caster.
