Maybe a cogged timing belt? Or a multi-groove serpentine belt?
Heck, I'll bet a round leather sewing machine belt would LOOK GREAT on there!
And work just about as well as this will.

I find that if you're going to ignore the factory engineered tensioning, belt length, and routing, then you'd might as well go whole-hog and just put a different belt style on there too.

I was totally surprised, you can see the notes written on it. The manuals are full of notes too. My thinking is poor performance from this deck and the PTO needing adjustment led to selling this tractor.

Got little time to work on the tractor tonight. Tightened the ez adjust clutch, yep that's all it needed, snaps right in and stays in now. The gap was close to an eighth of an inch. The PO said she was just holding it in with her foot on the lever, must have been kinda uncomfortable mowing. 
Tightened the motor mounts, all were loose.
Moved the seat back.
Put the deck back on and cut some tall wet grass, no more belt slipping.

I think I did alright on this one. 
Hopefully nothing major unexpected pops up. Little things are to be expected. For $1300. I can fix a few things. 
I think the PO's were genuine, just didn't have the ability or want to fix it. They seemed to have really liked it. Basic maintenance was always done.
Going to do oil change and then it's off to the shop to mow the jungle there.

After mowing today I gave them a little bath. 
Been a bit dry and man were they dusty.

I kept them in separate bays in the shed for a while before I put them together. They seem to be getting along.
