It's not a large area Jeff, about 26x36 feet. Goes fast be caused the rye is stiff now. I plant it over the garden area as cover crop.

Used one of those when I was a kid. Be to hard on a old fella like me. Might get twelve swipes and that would be it. Sharpness is the key of that tool, any tool for that matter.

Re: Pictures: this moment
Noel, it's quite hard on me back, the snath is too short so I have to bend over slightly. I tried hard to find a longer snath, but a new one is quite expensive.
Working the scythe is a matter of skill too. There is a certain movement that you're supposed to do and it makes the cutting really efficient, and much easier on the body. But you're right, sharpness is very important, and also important is the snath fit to the body.

That’s for sure, Eugen. You have to have the skill and movement. If I was sawing a piece of wood with a hand saw, my dad always said, let the saw do the work.Eugen wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 1:10 pm Noel, it's quite hard on me back, the snath is too short so I have to bend over slightly. You have to have the skill and movement , but let the tool do the work. Don’t force it.

Re: Pictures: this moment
The kids and the grandkids just headed home. We had ourselves a bonfire complete with weenie roast, marshmallows, s'mores: the whole nine yards.
Now it's quiet time with just me and grandma.
Our daughter and her husband and baby are moving north to Indiana in just a few short weeks. We are sure going to miss them!
But for tonight everything could not be better in my world.

Out doing some yard work this evening and came up on this guy having dinner. I hope he sticks to honey suckle and leaves the garden alone!
