Spirit of '76 Case 446

Post by Chad »

Didn't know they made GT versions, and only 8 at that. Very interesting.

Here is another spirit of 76 tractor.

@Eugen check out the sickle bar on the first tractor. A local guy around here had a sickle bar on his 3PT. It was so heavy that the two of us could pick the front end of his 4020PS up with ease.

Like Steve said 6 have been found. 5 in private hands and one at a museum. Too bad that Case didn't document their demos and spirit tractors in a different manner. Makes it easy for an unscrupulous person or person to try to past them off and the real thing. The engine and serial numbers of the known originals of the spirits make it a little harder. Since they number made is known. There has been talk in the past about as many as twelve were made. All of the ones found have had sequel serial numbers and engine numbers are also very very close.

Cubs are a little easier to document. And they made a lot more of them. The serial numbers also will tell you if it was a genuine SO76 when it came off the assembly line. Watch for fakes (easy to do except the Ser#) made from repainted & re-decaled regular yellow/white Model 76's manufactured in other years. Spirit of 76 serial numbers on Cubs are are 28600 through 32314.

@Eugen I only wished that were true and I knew more about them. I am willing to try to find an answer if I can. That is what this site is all about.

Finding, enjoying and sharing all the information we can find and like I say "One tractor at a time"

These tractors have a very colorful history that was not documented very well or if it was it was lost of misplaced over time. The Johnson Brothers and other early day case people were never given the proper recognition for what they accomplished.

Hopefully one day I can get enough information together about them that some of it can be pieced together. Given enough time and sharing well documented information my one day get us closer.
