On my Stihl saw there is a line on the side of the saw, when measured to the tip of the bar is 18".Propane57 wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 10:21 am So got working a little on theses Beepin things. Got one saw sharpened. This one runs, so no need to do any thing there, yet. Mixed up some gas and oil. Was gunna fill the gas and bar oil, but no sense in that cause the bar oil will all leak out. So I’ll wait to do that until the very second I use it. Now I have to find the bar oil jug.
A little trick for measuring your cuts. I just put this on, so have not tryed it. A fella on you tube does this. So the twist ties are measured to what ever length of log you want. I like around 16/17”, so a piece of yellow tape to measure that. The other yellow inside tape is at about 12” inches. So I have to cut four cord at 12” or so and the rest at 16/17”. Twist ties are flexible enough that they may not get in the way. Once I git to cutting wood, I’ll see how it works.
Quick Friday ramble.

For the life of me, I will never know why we never painted a line at 12" from the tip of all the saws.
The zip tie idea is interesting. I expect it would irritate me, but perhaps I'll give it a try and be pleasantly surprised...

Perhaps because it would wear off fast enough? I had a hard time even reading the bar specs on mine, and they're stamped in!Toolslinger wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 1:18 pm For the life of me, I will never know why we never painted a line at 12" from the tip of all the saws.

Yea, I imagine there would be no chance of getting one of my bars clean enough to have paint stick... I can still real the homelite logo on some of my old bars, so there might be hope on a new bar...

My McCullogh saw leaks oil and I know it's a hole in the oil feed line. I watched a you tube video on how to fix it, just haven't made the time to take it apart to replace the oil line.

Zip ties? I don't need no stinking zip ties!
