Yes I know Tim, I was just joking. Didn't mean to say you're like that, sorry. For me improving the performance of these devices is both a pleasure and something useful.

I have not had the right kind of snow yet. Mine has just been that light stuff you get when it is really cold.

But, I now have the hard pack I need on my gravel drive.

Can't tell you how much I like that our gravel is frozen too. Used the snowcaster last night and I could safely use the float :D I really have to come up with some way of using float even when the gravel is loose.

I mostly create the hard pack myself if the first snows are driveable.

Other than that guys have added the thicker drain pipe in I think 1 1/2" with a slot to the scrapper bar. The size and placement of the pipe need to not reach the auger. On my first attempt, the auger ate it. After that, if you leave the pipe it will not remove all the snow. It also will not get jammed on uneven surfaces very often.

I suppose a guy could make a scraper out of metal tubing as the leading edge. Then you could change that one for a regular one. But, scrapers are hardly ever paid any attention. I have seen many that the edge was literally gone but the other edge if flipped was still there.

I hear that :violin: Some used ones I acquired the scrapers where worn beyond some of the mounting holes and the lip of the casters and blowers had to be cut out and replaced.

I should have explained that better. The larger the pipe the further the pipe slides into or onto the scrapper. And then it would be best if you start with a new scrapper edge. You can buy new from a dealer or new double thicknesses from some guys that have them made up.

So, to use extremes to explain, a 1/2" pipe would barely slide onto the scraper bar and will be nowhere near the auger. A 4" pipe with a cut would slide onto the scrapper would easily interfere with the auger.

I do the same thing Steve, try to get hard pack down early. Always hope to get a couple of lite snows first. :please: This year had it the best I've had in years. Then 64° and rain then cold. Haven't been able to get it to stick since. :cuss: Just goes to show Mother Nature is never going to make it easy. :106:
