I am late to answer, but I do know the answer.
There is a major difference between a regular NPT fitting and a hydraulic NPT fitting. The hydraulic NPT is very much like a flared fitting. The male hydraulic NPT has a precision machined bevel on each end. The female hydraulic NPT has an inner sleeve that seals against the hydraulic NPT shaped end.
I had to finally figure this out when a customer insisted that I fix whatever was wrong with his tractor leaking oil from the PTO fittings.

Re: Leaking hydraulic quick connects
I installed the 2' hose loop the other weekend with a zip tie around the looped hose to hold the fittings inline with the mating fittings. No leaks so far but I haven't really used the tractor. Will see what happens when I actually get to blow some snow.
