Weather has turned time to hide

Post by DavidBarkey »

With all the outside stuff as ready as going to be for the onset of winter and the weather changing . It is time to turn up the heat in the shop and hide in there for the winter . First thing to do is to clean up , what a mess . Second thing is to get all the little things done first ,out of the way and out of the shop . Once I have some room to work it is back on to the 446 genny engine refit . Then on to fitting the 2 stage Berco blower on to it , Then make a cab out of something . Next after that is done and out of the shop and ready for use The plan is to remove the cylinders from the hoist and reseal them before standing up the towers and setting up the hoist . Hopefully by then the price of steel is down enough I can afford to buy the steel for the wheel lift arm adapters to pick up tractors . If time permits I would like to finish building the Bride of Frankenstein before spring hits . Well thats the plans for the winter between dealing with old man winter ,clucks and quackers , physio appointments , and being a kept man lol ( well at least until I am well enough to get back to work full time ) . Come spring I will be 57 and seriously considering semi-retirement . A lot will depend on if there is any permanent damage to my brain and if physio helps my back .

Dave, any chance you get bored?!   Or run out of projects? Looking forward to see that lift up, that's one solid device there, I like it. You can lift a tank with that! :spin: But take it easy buddy, health first!!!

I have been bored out of my mind the last month but did not have the energy , mindset or clearance from the DR. to do much . Now I have the clearance I hope to get somethings caught up . Now if I can just get the grey matter to fire on all cylinders for more than 10 min.s I will be doing good . As for projects , availability of affordable materials/parts will be the biggest challenge this winter I think . I am not sure about a tank , but will finally have something strong enough to pick up Frankie .

Post card picture@DavidBarkey that's what we had here Sunday morning, what's left will be gone today. It's definitely a reality check of what is to come.

I was talking with my pipe salesman last Thursday, he said that the price increases had leveled off, but they are not expecting any decrease anytime soon. It's just crazy. :O

You have a long winter coming to hide in the shop, plug away at projects, and heal. :highfive:
:creeper: no more mow it's time to blow :446cart:

That's a nice picture Dave! You guys are ahead of me, all ready for the 4 letter word that starts with s. :D I am so not ready. My snow caster is disassembled and the push behind China wonder I gave to my sister. If we get a big dump it's either shovel or the caster gets assembled in a hurry :109:

Update on s--- when out to feed the chickens and ducks . Well it is 6" and more coming before the rain . Got Frankie out and cleaned it up where I could and packed the gravel areas down for now . Those that receive Lake affect snow like us will have lot of it this winter I think .

I wish you luck in the healing process Dave. It's not always fun when you can't do the things that we use to all the time. Like you said it could be a great time to catch up in the shop.
I've only have a dusting of snow here, but I do know what Lake Effect can do. Especially if the wind picks up and you get white outs and a Blizzard!
I've got my 446 and caster ready for snow if we get it. Hopefully not until after Thanksgiving.

Keep the Peace

In the last week + we have had several 1" snows and some rain. Next rain is due Saturday, hoping the leaves will dry some so I can get them vaced up without a lot of plugging.

The neighbor has a 3 year old Cub Cadet/ MTD he had me switch the deck off and the 3 stage blower on. What a royal PITA :headbash: 45 minutes to get the deck off :headbash: Over an hour to get the blower on :headbash: Then find that he had a plug last year and did not disengage the clutch /belt tensioner, in one spot the belt went from 5/8 to about 3/8 :pullhair: So a trip to town, the belt is roughly 5 foot long and came to $109.65 with tax at the case IH dealer  Got the new belt on and it worked  Except for a missing shear pin on one auger segment

My snow rig is ready to except that I'd like to replace the wimpy rubber on the paddles with some heavy conveyor belting I got this summer.
