Non GT shop project

Post by Harry »

I had an old fire portable fire pit that the screening rotted away. I cut all the old screening off and then attached new heavy duty 10 gauge grating to. First part was the hardest bending the grating. I ended up clamping it to my snap on scissor lift using C clamps and a piece of angle iron. Then lifted the other end just enough to bend it a little. Then repeat the process until it was reasonably round. Then attached a ratchet strap and tightened. Clamped the ends of grating by over lapping them by three inches to get the correct diameter. Tack welded everywhere it overlapped on the seam. A BFH helped to get it into the right shape. Clamped the door frame on and welded it to the grating then cut the area between the door and frame until free. Lots of grinding to remove sharp edges. This is taller than the original pit and heavy duty which will last my lifetime. If the weather continues to be so wet I’ll continue to work in shop. :peace:

Nice Job @Harry
It almost looks big enough to double as a burn barrel!

Put some Ag tires on the PFP today. Portable Fire Pit. They are a little worn, but they won’t see many miles in my lifetime.
