I'd aggree there. They are loud.

A lot of it comes from the GHS system though. Remember you've got the grass discharge chute topping out around your upper back. All that noise is coming up from below unlike a regular mower that is throwing the grass out the side, or possibly further back to a bagger. It's also all hard piped, not a rubber hose that would absorb some of that noise.

When I went to the side discharge deck, I installed a disconnecter for the blower fan. I'm not going to tell you it's a stealth machine as a result, but it is distinctly different. The blower tends to be the high frequency noise, and that's gone. Really the only highs I get now are from the gearboxes on the deck.

I pretty much live with earphones all the time. I get 30-31db passive reduction units. I've got them sitting on every tractor seat, or hanging next to the on switch for loud machinery. Finding a brand/style that fits well, and is comfortable is key to actually wearing them. Better to get a set of 23db that you'll wear than the 30db that hangs on a hook because you hate them.

I expect I would go with the suspension setup you did if I was the only one using it. I will talk to my aunt and uncle though to see if they're interested. I'd have no issue, but they do most of the mowing, and they are comparitivly short, so the additional height might be an issue.
