Green Giant Arborvitae

Looks like the deer had a feast while I was on vacation. They ate the foliage off the bottom branches. They are supposed to be deer resistant. I guess that doesn’t matter if they are starving.

I'm sure that's irritating... I've seen a few people around here put up those orange construction fences to protect the arborvitae. Perhaps the fence can be bought in a different color?

@Harry what if you accidentally spilled corn on the ground away from them . If they're not hungry they are not going to damage trees .

I have some green snow fencing but that’s a lot ofwork for grandpa.

This year has been rough for the deer. Constant snow pack for lots of weeks. They've chewed the rhododendron from the ground up to about 4' up. It's apparently mildly toxic to them, but yea, when there's nothing else, they'll work with what they can get.

2014 was a harsh winter also. This photo is of a buck caught in the act of feeding on mountain ash berries in our front yard.

There was a bumper crop of apples that produced a lot of ground fall. The deer spent a lot of time pawing frozen apples off of the ground. This year they have been working over the mountain ash, but not when we are around.
