Me too, ugggJSinMO wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 4:08 pm I saw on the weather channel that you guys up in the north east are getting snow. Down this way we have been below freezing the last few days but dry. The early reports are saying we will have bitter cold and an increasing chance for severe weather next weekend. I’m crossing my fingers that it will be all snow and no ice. My 446 was giving me trouble starting. No spark while cranking. So I spent the day troubleshooting, if we get weather I’ll be needing it for sure. Turned out to be a bad ignition switch. Glad to have it up and running. Got the house filled back up with fire wood too. I’ll have to keep an eye on the weather if it look like ice is coming it may be a good idea to make sure the generators are ready just in case.
I know some of you guys love winter but every year that goes by I hate it more and more.

Re: The weather
Knock on wood , we have never had any problems like that . We have 30' dug well in sand/gravel with 4-7 feet of water year round . Very quick recharge rate . Our pump is in the house , so if it fails in the middle of winter at least it is inside . Ventury system means the double drop keeps things moveing in the coldest weather , plus the lines are a foot below worst frost line .Toolslinger wrote: ↑Tue Jan 20, 2026 4:45 pm Not snow but...
Took my 3am shower this morning to go to work. At the end, the water just stopped.
Pump was running, but no pressure.
Cistern was empty. Supply line was frozen someplace.
Hasn't happened in the last 30+ years the line has been in service.
Long story short. I went out in to the tundra at 7am. Water was flowing again at 4pm. Ran a bypass hose off the main to eliminate the last 30' of probably 300' once I figured out where the stop was. Strapped heat tape to the hose just in case. Not how I want to run, but it already cost me a 12 hour work day... After tonight, the temps relent for a couple days, and then we're single digit (F) again on Friday. I'll be home again, so it should be ok... Once I see the temp in the water works climb above 35, I'll be heading to NJ for work... Hate this kind of problem.

Re: The weather
More snow.
Had 5cm after the 30cm we had the other day, another 5 cm down so far today and they are saying a major storm for Monday coming.

They don't seem to have a handle on the Sununday storm for me yet. I've got almost equal chances of anywhere from 3" to 18". I imagine they'll dial it in a little better by tomorrow.

Same here. All I know is we are getting snow here on the east coast Sunday and Monday... and the stores will be out of milk, bread and eggs.

Re: The weather
1-2' of snow predicted here Sun/Mon. Today I tried to teach my new neighbor how to start and use the old neighbors not that old 2x26" cub cadet snowblower and it wouldn't start. The idiot old neighbor left it full of gas and probably did that every year. He also never adjusted the skid shoes. They are about 1/4" off the ground. Scraper bar looks lovely
Oils at the bottom of the dipstick and the chute is in desperate need of some lubricant. Electric starter sounds horrific. Overall build quality is just plain crap. We'll get it fixed when its warm out.

Re: The weather
The last few days we have got round after round of snow squaws . total snow fall for the year so far is estomated at around 10 feet . It is good thing that it does settle and we have had 3 sunificant melts as well . As much as I hate the winter and all the extra work it produces for no gain , I am glad we got this last round to cover/ insulate the chicken and duck runs . It is curantly -28C real feel -35C / -18 F real feel -31 F . I went out yesterday when it was -16C real feel -28 and inside the run it was -6 C with no wind chill facter . I hope the snow keeps it to above -10 in there for them untill cold snap breaks .

Re: The weather
I had a good laugh last night. Drifting in the driveway was almost more than my old 4x4 could handle. I waded through the snow from the shop to the house and found our snow shovel tossed in the bank next to what looked like three scoops full of snow. Him thought she could show her way out through the knee deep snow drift that was about 6 ft wide. She didn't last long. I guess her need to get to the post office wasn't as great as she thought it was. I made short work of it this morning.
