4018 with failing electric clutch bearings.

I have a quick question about the electric clutch on my 4818. The more deck is failing to stop running when the clutch is disengaged, because the clutch bearings are starting to seize.

Has anyone in the group attempted changing the bearings in an oem clutch?

I have not personally done it but others have. Basically you just need to grind off the stamped indentations that retain the bearing and then drill and use a small sheet metal screw to retain the new ones.

If you decide to replace the clutch, Xtreme makes a whole line of electric clutches that by the way, have replaceable bearings.

@Spike188 I have done said repair on other brands . Like Bob said Extreme are made to be repaired . As for doing the one you have , like Bob said grind the staking off press out bearing . Note some clutch sections are riveted together , which is a other level off at it . I would how ever ask the questions, A - how old is the clutch ,B- how much use does it . The bearing are not the only thing that fatigues with age .

Thanks for the feedback Bob and Dave. Getting started this morning, I realize how much things fatigue with age. It's nine o'clock and I still haven't gone to the shop.

So the first thing I'll look at is wear on the pulley. Has the belt worn grooves deep into the pulley? How much clutch material it's left. And have the bearings eaten into the shaft where they slide.

The repair or replacement will be a winter project. The only place the clutch get used is for mowing as I do not have a snow blower to fit the 4018.
