444 tilling

Dug out the rear tiller and connected it to the 444. Need to prepare the soil since the Troybilt engine quit. It went really well in the small garden, tilled in both directions but still not as good a job as troybilt. Tilled the big garden in one direction and just started the opposite direction and the engine quit because battery was dead. Starter generator was not charging the battery after a full charge. Pulled it up to the shop put on charge and now it won’t even turn over. I think it’s time for a new starter generator. When it rains it pours. I wonder what will break next. Harry

Still looking into the 444 situation. Put the tiller on the 646 and finished the garden. It just doesn’t grind up my hard clay like the troybilt does. I’ll take a few pics of the 646 with the tiller on. Harry

I looked into getting a non Chinese starter generator which would run around $400. I didn’t want to do that since I just had my current one rebuilt two years ago. The rebuilder put in a new armature, brushes, bearings and a ysed end cap. It worked fine for awhile then started to act up. I took it apart two days ago and confirmed the new parts in the unit. One of the bearings seemed to be a bit tight. So I popped off the end seal only to find a little grease in it. Cleaned it out and put some red moly grease in. Reassembled it and now it’s working fine. He must of used some Chinese bearings. Harry
