Ingersoll 4020PS Rehoboth MA $3000

Post by MattA »

I looked at this tractor tonight. In person it definitely needs to be cleaned up. Its been sitting, the starter did nothing on the first try. Fired right up on the 2nd try. High/Low range works, power steering works, lift works, electric PTO works. Bearings in the deck are shot. I've never heard a deck howl that loud. Linamar engine fires on either plug. Hydravac impeller spins freely like mine does with no obvious seal leaks. I did not mount the hydravac and run it. Deck has the mulching kit installed with an extra decent set of mulching blades. 2002 model year with backhoe transaxle. Bottom right side of the hood has a nasty bend in it. Seller encouraged me to make an offer and wasn't interested in $2K... not sure I was either. Oh well it was only 2.7 miles away. Nice people...

Yeah it would have been a nice upgrade. That Onan has a lot of power. I engaged the deck at idle and it was fine. I need my 16HP Vanguard at about 2200RPM or so to engage the deck.

When using a vac system, the blades are specifically not supposed to be mulching blades. The best blades are the base mid-lift blades. The bolt-on baffles would have to be removed as well. With them still mounted, the blades are isolated from each other, so there is no way to move the grass to the discharge chute.

You would also have to remove the mulching kit to install the hydravac's block off plate under the deck.

It's still listed... seller had told me he had 20 people asking about it...

Do the power steering tractors always take several turns lock to lock? I also noticed a lot of whining from the hydraulic system when sitting at idle. My 4016 with the Vanguard is reasonably quiet. I'm not sure what the hydraulic oil level was. I forgot to check it.

Yes, the power steering models do take several turns of the wheel. I think it is that way, car-like, so that your steering tires do not move so fast that when you mow with it, it would look like you mowed while under the influence.

What is great about them is if you are doing a lot manuvering a spinning knob and the steering wheel is really nice.

The hydraulics can be a bit noisy. I think that most guys have decided it is when you have a rear pto the steel lines feeding it are singing a bit. The oil does move in series, and that means it goes through the valve for the rear pto. You can calm that down with some more rubber-coated mounting clamps.

Well I've been kicking myself for about 2 weeks for not buying this one... but here's another one. Could actually be a $3000 package. I've fixed my hydravac motor seal before. Would be nice if it was 100 miles closer.
