Prestolite generator starter
Seen a starter generator on marketplace for a good price. Delco Remy has two terminals. One to battery other to regulator. Prestolite generator starter has only one terminal to battery. Do you think this could be used on a Case GT?

Re: Prestolite generator starter
Well, it only has a terminal for the armature and is missing a field terminal. The small gauge wire that runs from the field winding to the voltage regulator is what provides variable resistance to ground so that the generator can provide the required charge to the battery and other loads imposed.
I would give this a pass as it would appear that the output is unregulated.

Like Bob said . These units are regulated though a resisted path to similar to how an under flywheel alternator on a small engine is regulated . you 'could' , but you would have to rewire the tractor . By the time you were done it would be cheaper to buy a new direct fit starter generator .
