Made another gas tank

Post by DavidBarkey »

This tank is for the 1953 2 wheeled tractor with the Clinton engine in it . The cap had rotted away and it had filled with water . The plan was to de-solder it, repair, solder and seal inside and out .
old tank disassembled

old tank sand blasted and found to be too far gone

new tank and cap coated inside and out with POR-15 gas tank sealer

Bottom seam is folded hook lock then soldered

End caps were cut out and edge rolled over a plate locked in the lathe . sheet metal was pinched between two plates to hold while rolling the edge with knurling tool

Next I want to try making a fuel tank for the 446 Blower tractor with baffles , sump and electric fuel gauge built in . I can not make it like the originals due to the end being drawn buckets , but I can make it the same shape with the ability for remote filling neck/cap for easier filling with a cab on like I did for Frankie .

Excellent work @DavidBarkey - If you enjoy the challenge of reproducing old fuel tanks and the word gets out... :writing:
it could be a lucrative side hustle for you...
