Yes, there should be a thin washer between the big washer and the lower bearing and between the top bearing and the pulley as well. Part number C28972, I measured a new one for you, .057" thick.
More progress today. Now don’t laugh at my welding I’m not a trained welder. Every thing you see hear is back yard, no training, no professional tools and just a back yard fella. Used a grinder to get the most off, then the flat hand file for exact fit. Fixed up well.
But good movement ahead now. So I can start spindle installation. Have to still remove one bearing in the deck and clean things up to put it together.
Ok, so the spindle is back in, pulley on and all is smooth and no nosies. It’s gunna be so quiet you won’t know the deck is running, unless to look at the chute and see the grass flying out.
I am going to look at the idler pulley too. It needs changing.
Noel the welds look good. When doing build up before machining the appearance is no big deal. I lot of holes in the welds would be bad and I didn’t see any. Good job. Harry

Well done Noel . A repair like that is not easy to do a good job of with only hand tools . Most don't have the patients .
