Saving a crank key way

Post by DavidBarkey »

This is a small Honda horizontal engine from rear tine tiller . The nut on the fly wheel came loose and ate the key and damaged the key way . I ordered a 5/32 woodrift key cutter and milled the key way oversized . Filed the key way in the flywheel to suit . Reassembled with look tight . Tomorrow we will see how close I am with the timing .

Dave,

You are fortunate to have the equipment to attempt a repair like that. If you find that the timing is a bit off I'm thinking that could be easily corrected by offset machining the key.

Thanks for your post,

Bob

Yes Bob , but didn't come without sacrifice (no good dead goes unpunished don't you know ) . I did without in other areas of life to get these things and took time to get to what I have .

Well it worked and runs like top again . The owner will be very happy .
