Colt 9 production year 1963 or 1964?
We picked up the Colt 9 near Port Colborne Ontario today. The back story is that someone started to restore it and passed. His son gave it to his freind who stored it for 10 years and sold it to us.
My firt impression of the Colt is that it is sound but missing the chrome side panel strips. The engine is a Kohler 241-S, SN890210, Spec 46148A. It is missing the air filter housing. There is no evidence of a tractor model of serial number on the dash. The implement lift lever is missing There is no evidence of ever having hydraulic drum brakes or an inline hydraulic motor lock. This makes me think that it might be a very early production unit.
In passing I also just noticed it is missing a tire.

Spike, this looks like a project for the long run. Hopefully you find those missing parts!

What size are the rear tires @Spike188 ? They look like they're in good shape!

Such a cool looking tractor. The rear wheels, fenders and seat all reminds me of an old Wheel Horse 702 my grandfather had growing up. Excited to see what else you can find out about this machine, and the restoration!

Nice find! That is a 1963 Colt 9. The hydraulic brake is a rare option on these, not really an indication of early production or not. Based on the travel control lever, this is a later production 1963. I owned the earliest Colt known to exist, S/N 1008. The serial sticker is missing on yours, but there is a good possibility that it is stamped on the frame, just above the left foot pad on the side of the dash tower.

@micase Thankyou for the feedback. I just checked the frame and could not see a stamped serial number. I could be that a previous owner painted over it. With your help and others I will work on a plan for restoration. @crazycase posted a picture of a 9 with hydraulic brakes. This tractor does not have any peddles on the right or left side and is missing the assessory lift componets. Finding any missing parts will be a chanllange or doing justice on quality reproductions, if that is the chosen route of restoration.

You're welcome! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. A good friend of mine owns the Colt 9 with the optional hydraulic brake.

@Doublet just had me recheck the engine numbers. He suggested years ago that hard to read number imprints is to check at night and do a 3/4 side view with a flashlight. Using Terry's method the Kohler 241-S SN 890210 Spec #46148A just became SN 690216.
