The tractor was delivered yesterday to the new owner, who lives in the little town not far away from me. I installed a new, better quality, ignition switch, the brake mechanism, and put new vinyl on the seat back cushion. Since I had to take the exhaust off to install the brake, I cleaned the surface rust, treated it with some phosphoric acid based solution, and then gave it a coating of high-temp spray. The guy was really happy with all of that and I was happy that he was happy. I thought the story ended here.
But no. Today my phone rings and he tells me he needs some help. I was afraid the engine blew up or something terrible like that. He says "I did something stupid, I put gas in the hydraulic tank!". Oops! I told him to not run it at all, and went and drained the oil, filled some, ran a little, drained again, and filled up. All good once again. Let's hope it stays well.
P.S. Here's something funny. The new ignition switch I got this winter when I was working on the tractor was fine when I installed it. But what do you know, exactly before people show up to have a look at the tractor I noticed it would shut off the engine when wiggling the key a little harder. Embarrassing, to say the least. Some items are so low quality, doesn't matter that they're new. The new switch is much better.
