Mower deck bracket
Re: Mower deck bracket
I tried another belt and I can see what's happening now. The belt is rolling. The v part isn't in the groove anymore but it was when I installed it

Re: Mower deck bracket
That's strange! You must check each of the pulleys then. Mine, not oem, is tight and never rolls.
Re: Mower deck bracket
I know it's very strange. All of my pulleys turn very smoothly. There are no nicks or grooves cut into any of them.

Re: Mower deck bracket
Do you think it's possible you didn't route the belt properly? I'd also make sure the belt doesn't touch anything, clutch engaged and also disengaged.
I still have my blower on, can't take pictures for comparison.
Another possibility is that you still don't have the bracket hooked on correctly and when you lift/lower the deck it torsions the belt.

I really can't think of any other way that you would route the belt. I checked and it's not touching anything either with a PTO engaged or disengaged. And it could be something to do with the mule drive and bracket but even without lifting the mower deck it's the same thing. I didn't lift it at all and it happened
Re: Mower deck bracket
I did discover that my deck was very badly leveled. So going by the manual I presume I have a j-46 deck. Unfortunately even now with the deck leveled and the belt getting a much straighter route to the pulley, that belt still flips it inside out as soon as I turn on the PTO

Re: Mower deck bracket
I don't think it's the problem you're facing, but I can heartily recommend the aramid/kevlar belts for this application. I ran one on my '73 442, same deck and configuration as yours, for 6 seasons before it wore out.
