New front tires

Post by Eugen »

For one of them I've yet to decide if they go on the 644 or the 446.

They are rated at max 620 lbs per tire. The 644 is rated at around 1130 lbs with a lift limit of 938 lbs. Assuming all the weight on the loader is on the front tires, and assuming 1/2 the weight of the tractor is also on the front tires, that's already 938 + 1130 / 2 = 1503 lbs. Way more than the max limit of the tires, which is 1240 lbs. I mean, I don't think I'll every attempt to lift 900 lbs. But still.

I was hoping to use the 644 for both loader duty and garden duty. For garden duty I really wanted to have these ag tires at the front, but the weight limit on them doesn't look so good for loader duty. For a tractor that does both garden and loader most recommended tires are the 3 ribs type, but I could not find any in this size.

With no PS on the 644 I’d almost be tempted to run something tall and narrow. They do look good with 18x8.50-8’s though. V61’s are my favourite tire for 2wd tractors

Yeah but 5 rib keeping the tractor going straight in the garden... I have a hard time seeing that happening. :|

You’d be surprised, they work extremely well. Lot deeper tread than the stock “rib” tires.

I do not think you will enjoy steering those wheels.

The stock tire works and there are reasons why it works. It being skinny presents just one edge when turning with a tread that is the same as bald. And narrow tires are as easy as it gets for being able to turn. Pretty much any other tire will be harder to turn.

You do not see old farm tractors with manual steering and wide front tires. They all run narrow tires just like the original front tires for several reasons.

Yes, I know. I'd have liked 5.70 three ribs tires more, but try and find that.

If they'll be terrible the 446 gets them and goes back to garden duty. Then my wife will accept we can't sell the 446 because the 644 can't do everything.

And no trouble keeping the tractor going straight when you do garden stuff?

You have different rims than a 6xx in front right?

The original axle had size for size , but the new super duty axle has ones on it now are a little narrower . As long as don't have too many hop based lubricants the rows are straight . :drink:

Eugen, when you say "keeping the tractor going straight", is the front being pushed/pulled around by the implement your pulling or you can't turn when you want, or both. Probably both. :7:

Is lack of front weight part of the issue? :hm:

I don't have a front weight, and have issues when I have my Hydra bagger on on the hilly parts of my lawn. :O
I've been meaning to build something, but never seem to get to it. :dizzy:
