Neighbors Tractor

Neighbor was working ground across from my shop yesterday. I heard him as he started his work. From the inside of my shop I thought to myself that tractors sounds good running. Listened to it working for about 15 20 minutes. Then heard a pop and smelled smoke.
Walked out side an this is what I saw. Tractor cab was totally involved in fire. Neighbor still inside of cab. Could see him trying to get out. He finally jumped out of tractor. And started walking towards his grandsons house, away from where I was at. The tractor was setting about 100 yards from my shop. When I got to where he was standing someone else had pulled up in a pickup.
He was transported to hospital about 20 miles away. Burns to both arms, face, neck, ears and I am sure lungs were damaged. Not in great shape plus he is about 70-72 years old.
I have not heard his condition as of today.
Be safe out there.

Not sure, it was strange for sure. Possibly electrical but I really don't know, it was too involved in flames before I got outside to look.
I think his worse problem will be his lungs.

Scary stuff, sure appears It started in or very close to the cab. Would be interested to know if a cause is determined. 27 years on fire department always stirs the how and why.
My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

My thoughts exactly, started in or close to inside of cab. Spent 15 years on fire department, myself. The only fire near the engine appears to be at fuel line connection. (Going by photos alone).
Will look at tractor later this week to try an confirm where it may have started. I tried to talk to him before he left for hospital but he appeared to be in shock so I didn't push the point. His biggest problem in my opinion will be his lungs.
Will try to let you know what I find out.

I hope he recovers OK.
I hate to see that happen even to a green and yellow tractor

But it is that time of year, mouse nest in the wrong place or some chewed wires, and just plain dirty grease and oil buildup.

They had to med-flight him to Oklahoma City. I went back down and looked at the tractor this morning. It appears to me the battery may have the closest source of where the fire started. The main course of fire entered the left side under the cab, then under the entire cab and up.
From what I can tell and from what I saw he couldn't open the door on the cab. From what little he told his grandson he was trapped and had to break the rear glass out of tractor with pair of fencing pliers.
His condition is very serious. His lungs are the major problem. Dr said the next few days will tell what will happen.
