I trade buy, borrow or steal or otherwise acquire the Colt 9 that Eugene S. has.

What is the procedure to get tractor to Oklahoma. Other than armed guard to protect me after taking it. lol

I have these questions?

1. What does Canada charge for old GT leaving the country?
2. Or in reverse what do they charge for someone to bring tractor into country?
3. If shipped about what s freight charges?
4. Almost same question about parts going in or out of Canada?
5. How strict are they on parts coming and or going?
6. If Eugene decided to bring it to Oklahoma himself, can he do that. Leaved Canada with tractor and return without it with no charge?

Just trying to better understand how it all works. Crossing border with tractors and parts.

Many years ago I got in trouble at Canadian border with taking too many US Cigarettes in.
And when returning to US with a 410 shotgun I bought while in Canada.

They didn't do anything to me other than took the cigarettes and shotgun.

Well if you happened to come up with a tractor for a club show and magically morphed into a Colt 9 and went home with that who would know the difference . A old lawn tractor is an old lawn tractor after all . Who know what you might have that one of us might need .

I have no idea on getting a tractor across. Only thing, one time one of the guys in our fishing group took an extra case of beer with and paid the duty on it. Back then it was$12.00 on a $10.00 case. So it cost the same as a case of Canadian beer at the time.
My father said he remembered they took serial numbers down on their outboards and cameras and checked them when they came back across.

Now I'm not exactly sure how it works but I was under the impression if something was built in the US and exported to Canada an export tax would be placed on it. Now if and when it is reintroduced into the US then you would just pay the sales tax of purchase at customs?

Our 60" deck for the Ingersoll 4018 was purchased from @Jancoe many years back. On that run we picked up 8 D10 wheel weights and an Ingersoll chipper. We declared them at the border after being away for 48 hours. Customs and charged sales tax of 7% on the amount over $1600 cd. We get an $800 dollar break per person if out of country for longer that 48 hours. Used garden tractors and parts are free of import restrictions and tariffs.

About every 5 years we fly south and purchase a vehicle and every year and we get reminded of Gilda Radner [youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPgoWxT1PMc[/youtube]. Last time we were required to have a broker ($75.00) submit US export documents to Port Huron US Customs 72 hours before crossing. We had planned on taking a day to cross based on previous issues with customs loosing documents. Because it was a farm truck, hours of washing and detailing in sub freezing temperature were put in trying to remove all traces of corn seed, dirt, and hay. We stopped at US customs at 8:30 for export documents. Arriving at Canadian Customs, declaring the pickup, presented paperwork, paying Canadian sales tax on the US dollar amount, we were back on the road by 10:30. They never looked the truck over or ask about anything else we might have bought.

This pickup was transferred new from a dealer in Nebraska to Oklahoma and purchased by relatives. It is and odd duck being fully loaded single cab.
In December 2016 at 16+years old it had 142,000 miles and 4 years later it has over a 100,000 more.
We moved north in 1989 and crossed the border with a small moving truck and most of our processions. We left behind a tractor collection of over 50 pieces. Now that my dad has passed these will need to be moved or sold. We did list them and filed documents with Canada Customs when we moved.

Thanks for all of your answers. I had heard so many things I had no idea how it might work.
I had heard from a cousin of mine about a bad experience with a broker. It almost broke him because of a mistake in paperwork by broker, then the painting was held by customs for over a year because of paperwork mistakes.

@Doublet Work contacts have great relationships with brokers and directed me to a New York broker who had experience in vehicle customs needs. The 2 of the biggest issues with purchasing a vehicle south of the border and bringing it north can be plating, ie a dealer plates or having to purchase a plate in the state of registration. Oklahoma plates stay with the vehicle for its life. I don't know what happens with vanity plates there. Also the first time we brought one north we had problems finding insurance coverage. Once again customers directed me to an agent that not only set us up but now covers all of our needs.

Answer these questions, Is it allowed to be imported for use in Canada? Is it at least 15 years old? If newer that 15 has it been modified? Was it built in Canada, Mexico, or the USA? If newer than 15 years what will need to be upgrade to pass inspection? Some of the requirements are odometer register in kilometers, and the addition of daytime running lights.

I can make arrangements for parts to be shipped UPS or FedEx, us an alternate broker, and pay customs fee's at our local airport customs center. If possible we like having parts shipped to friends south of the border then make a weekend south for 48 hours plus. That qualifies us to bring back $1600 worth tax and duty free.
