Frankie hydralic upgrades

Frankie going into the shop for some needed tlc and upgrades to the hydraulics .
Currant set up .
20hp Onan Performer with 12 gpm @3000 rpm pump
flow divider splitting flow equally
channel A drive motor/ 3 point lift cylinder
channel B Wet pto / loader valve
Loader valve 25 gpm
duel coolers with filter and electric fan

Problems are loader to erratic as the valve is too big to allow fine motion control (what was availible at the time of build with float ). lack of flow to Wet pto for tiller speed . Reduced max flow to drive motor is hurting over all speed . Due to weight of the tractor with loader and rear weight on , low range is all I can use . pump front seal leaking (seen a lot of hard work over the years )
starter motor acting up .

Changes
adjustable flow control
Drive motor /Wet pto / lift cylinder on same circuit with about 9-10 gpm of flow ( back to OEM flow path)
new smaller loader valve 11gpm on own circuit with 2-3 gpm flow .

Wish me luck I need to have this done quick so I can have the garden ready to start planting this weekend .

David I’m sure the update on Frankie will go terrific. Your an experienced mechanic and you built Frankie. So taking it apart and making changes should be no problem. Keep us posted on the progress of your project. :creeper: :peace: Harry

Thanks Harry, time is my biggest enimy right now . . As you all know when you dive into something like this there is always more found that needs attention . Well got it all apart , pressure washed and is now drying over night . The pump leak turned out to be the ORB fitting on the suction side , clamping nut come loose . But , since it is already out and have a seal . New seals it gets . The wires from the stator coil were needing attention . The new starter is going on in the morning with reassembly . Oh and another leak is the TXV valve O rings . The top of the line low end Chinese O rings only lasted about 8 years before leaking badly.
After disassembly and a good bath .

Lots to do. I’d be lost on that one.

Noel.

Well got it done far enough to try the tiller on the garden . OMG what a difference in the speed of the tractor and the tiller tines . With the loader off and tiller on I ran 100% to the drives I finish the garden in half the the and did a better job than before . The 3 pnt. is so much quicker as well . With loader I run about 30% loader and 70% drive . Much faster travel speed and the loader is much more same speed regardless of engine rpms . a lot easier to control with finer movements . Still some more thing to finish , but it's back working again better than ever . For every modification there is ten more thing that have to change because of it . That why it took all week to figure out and do .
thats 3/4" hose feeding the control valve from the pto valve . overkill is underrated .
