But dies happy !

(After all the stuff I've bought over the last few weeks at Peavey Marts "Going out of business Sale" I'm happy mine is still talking to me - and actually encourages me - when I hesitate about a purchase - If only we had a crystal ball to predict what would be useful to have and what will end up sitting on a shelf and collecting dust...)

I know what you mean, I have a few engines that are setting on a shelf. I just might use one on next years winter project. Planning ahead already. Harry

My 646L started knocking last week. I have a Honda 630? stashed in a building somewhere that came with the 646lbh. I know Harry has done a conversion a few years back. This is a project to complete after the LBH but I still want to rush both.

Spike I have noticed my 644 lbh knocks when under a heavy load with the loader bucket digging. I never get the knock with the hoe digging. I have another Honda 620 on the shelf and thinking about putting in tge 644. I did repower the 646 with a Honda 620 a few years ago. So I have a good idea on what kind of engine mount I would have to fabricate. Harry

@Harry Other than engine mounts what else has to be modified?

The Honda 620’s had the ignition switch intact so it was easy to connect the wiring. Engine mount was a lot if measuring to make sure it fit. Then install then back out to finish welding and paint. That took a few days of hokey pokey under the tractor. Choke and throttle cables were easy also. Last was the exhaust system had to be fabricated which took some time, but that work I love. The connection of crankshaft to hydro pump was no problem because the first Honda engine had a pump connected which was much larger so I stayed with the original pump.
I know people say a 14 hp Kohler will handle the hydraulics. I agree but my 646 had an older Onan CCKA that had issues when I purchased it. So I knew a repower was in its future from the get go. Usually for a hydraulic drive tractor you don’t need high rpm’s to just dig. But I do use a rototiller and a rear mowing deck on the 646. The Honda handles the higher rpm’s required for those operations no problem. I just love Honda engines for the way they start and run so why not repower the 644 lbh with one also. That’s my morning ramble for the morning Harry
