Another quick snowthrower modification.

So, been wondering if I could get this thrower to throw better and farther. Sooo, I did a quick modification. I installed a piece of smoke pipe into the end of the chute. I attached it to the pivot bolts and the securing bolts. So the chute will still move up and down same as always. My idea was to make a 6” opening instead of the 8” opening. My thinking was maybe the snow would stay together better and maybe a little more pressure to push it out and maybe go farther. This thinking came from, most garden tractor chutes are a 6” opening.
Any way. I think it maybe better but not a great deal. But it does hold the snow together better. But, the snow conditions were not the same. Only one day in the difference. Snowed over nite. As I use it I may get a better feel for it.
Some pictures.

I found the same as you Noel, With lengthening and narrowing the chute exit the snow goes a little farther , but most important is the stream is more condensed and less blowing back from the wind .

Great idea David. I moved snow last night, it’s the first time I ever did this at night so I turned on the lights. The lights on the top of the cab worked terrific with the flashing light bar to make cars aware at the end of the driveway. I noticed that throwing the snow further mostly depends on the snow. The snow last night was very light and just blew everywhere after leaving the chute. I’m glad I had a cab on the GT. Heavier wet snow seems to blow further but if it’s to wet and heavy then it wants to stick together to much. David I like your idea of the six inch diameter chute, but I’m not changing mine anytime soon. :peace: Harry

I like this approach. Its basically a smaller snowblower shoot adapted to the snowcaster with a bit of a taper to it. I believe @Jancoe built one. I think I have pictures I can look for another time.

Case 244 has been down for a while. But has been repaired. But not tested yet. That may happen in the next day or so.
When I finished the modification to the chute and was testing it, the day of the pictures I posted above, shortly after those pictures , the drive pulley on the thrower gave trouble. So I had not been able to give it a good test.
