Bearing failure on the input shaft at the belt end . :cuss: :headbash: I did a bit research and in is common problem with this model . Concession is it is due to lack of lubrication (splash) getting to them . Fix is to use sealed bearings and change them every couple of years . Bearing are not expensive so sound reasonable . Except when I take it apart to find the bore where the bearings ride at the one end is egg shaped due to a failure before I bought it used ,but they just put in new bearing and did not fix the damage . :cuss: :headbash: I am surprised it lasted as long as it did for me without gernadeing . It took all day but ,it is right now and have spare set of bearing ready for when it gets noisy again . My day in pictures .

An aggravating repair. Glad you’re back in business. Good thing you have that mill machine.

@DavidBarkey I have rebuilt a few lathe gearboxes in the past and have a few cutom tools for torque setting and play. Lucky you are not dealing with bent shafts. You tool crib makes me jealous.

I got lucky . I had just enough height in the little mill to do the job , with an 1/8" to spare . And the input shaft (the easy one ) was only bad bearings . Because the lathe was down I could not turn a bushing so I had rummage through my Shiii stuff and found a piece I could cut chunk off and press in and finish the bore in the mill . Like you Eugene , it has taken a life time to get where I am . Buying used stuff and fixing it like the Mill . I got it for $150 in a basket . I am equally jealous of you new shop , mine has serious power and height limitations . But it is warm and dry which keeps me going this time of year.

Somehow I missed this thread. Great work as always Dave, I would not call this luck, but a combination of skills and gathering the right tools.
