Adding front weights

With the snow blower on the ground there is no enough front steering weight . In the summer I use an old snap fast bracket modified to hold suitcase weight , but with the snowcaster on that's not possible . this is my solution.

one forward and one aft allows wheel clearance . Bracket clamps on with two bolts ,so is easily removed for summer . Left side only due to steering link on right side . See how this works out this winter . Just have to clean it up and paint it .

I always had steering problems with the 446 and snow caster. I changed the tires last year to some snow blower tires and end of steering problems. :peace: Harry

It will steer fine in reverse for me. I have done this ever since I added all the extra rear weights and traction, which makes the steering harder. That is why they do not make locked-up rear ends for small equipment. The traction comes at the price of steering, but almost not at all in reverse.

Once I am on the packed snow, I can steer fine with almost any new tires/new rubber on the front. Old tires are hard and slippery.

My son had bought an old truck from a retired old guy. The tires had good tread on them. I told my son that he needed to replace those tires. I told him old rubber is bad rubber. He found out the old man knew, and that truck got totaled at the beginning of the snow season the first year he had it. He was driving with traffic at the same speed as everyone else. He was the only one to slide out of his lane and hit the guard rail.
