Colt Case Ingersoll Garden Tractors

On the way to check out the tractor cabs I saw someone cross the road in front of me with a LT, so I slowed down. The person on the LT was pulling something behind the LT but couldn’t quite figure out what it was at first. I wish I could of gotten a pic of this. As I gotten closer I figured it out. Not sure what brand of LT it was but it was rigged up pulling two walk behind lawn mowers, one on each side behind the LT. So I figure with the mowing deck of the LT being about 36”, and each walk behind 20”, he had a mowing width of about 76”. The driver was moving very fast and went through a ditch in front of his house that he mowed. It was sloped on both sides so he drove through it and just kept going. I couldn’t believe my eyes. . Necessity is the mother of invention. He had a large area to mow and the two extra movers cut his mowing time in half. I just wish I could of got a pic of this for everyone to witness. Harry

That was basically the MO for many years at my place when I was a kid. We ran a Bolens Lawn Keeper that had I think a 28" deck, and high gear was I believe 3mph. We towed an old 20" walk behind on an outrigger to the right rear. (handle bar was removed, so it didn't look too silly) The "lawn" was about 2 acres then. My sister and I split mowing duties, and it took half of the day to cut it. That outrigger not only gave us an extra 70% cutting width, and reduced time, but it kept us 20" away from the bramble that was always reaching out to rip you up... Never had a scalp issue with the narrow decks either unlike the 56" single I run now on the Walker.

I have actually been toying with the idea again. Just not for the "lawn". It would be nice to convert a 36" or so deck to hydraulic for use with the 444, out on a wing. Turn it in to a ditch/bank setup.

Ingersoll made a 60" wing mower that hydraulically raised and lowered.
