Helm pump

One day on my way home there was a large boat console on the side of the road. People were moving out and we're cutting up a big boat in to pieces. After asking them if I could take the console I came back with the trailer and got it. I had forgotten about the parts I got off the console but came across the steering wheel and this helm pump today while going through junk that needs to go.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? :D

I suppose it would work but I'm thinking about something else that my 644 could use.

Hint: it rhymes with a frolic stirring

Indeed! Except there is no extra pump, the little box behind the wheel is itself the pump. All I need is an appropriate cylinder.

@Eugen I have had the same thought for use on Frankie . I theory it should work with the appropriate sized double ended body mount cylinder mounted on the front axle .

Minneapolis Moline G900 tractors used a similar system. When the steering motor wore, the tractor would drift to one direction. Staying the course required constant but slow rotation of the steering wheel to maintain a straight line. I will pull a parts breakdown of that system to confirm how the pump tied into the system.

My 555 back hoe has a cylinder on each front wheel but it steers like that. You don't notice it during normal operation but driving down the road you do. I guess the 4118 does it too.

I got your gears turning eh? :D

Before going more complicated, I'm wondering if something simple like this would work acceptably

I’m hoping you can see it from this picture, my 648 has the cylinder set up like that. I can get better pictures if you need them.
