Colt Case Ingersoll Garden Tractors

I noticed last week that I had a drip on the oil pump inlet so I drained the oil and it appears to me this is a press fit into the side of the pump. To my knowledge this is an oem pump and has never been disturbed. I guess it just vibrated after many years connected to a shaking Kohler 321 14 hp engine. I’m figuring if I try to tap it into place it will just vibrate loose and start leaking again. Any suggestion on this press fit pipe would be appreciated. Harry

I have used this on a couple of pump inlets . works great .
loctite 638 retaining compound .
warning... make sure you have the oriantation correct the first time . Once locked in you are NOT moving it again .

I have a vague recollection that there might be an o-ring in there. When I worked on my 644 I did run across this, but I don't remember exactly what I did; fact is, no leak.

I was waiting to see an answer, then thought, I’d put Seal All glue on there. It resists oil and gas. I would think it would keep it in place. But the oil pipe would still be removable.

I did not go crazy. Mine does have an o-ring

But liked others said, some sort of sealant goo will provably fix the problem.

Good idea Noel. I have to say since you introduced me to Seal All I’ve used it several times now. I have to say it’s really impressive! At this point I wouldn’t hesitate to use on the pipe @Harry has

Not an uncommon occurrence, appropriate loctite sealants will work and I then also peen the pump body around the suction tube with a center punch to help secure it.

I looked for Loctite 638 at a few auto parts stores even NAPA. Struck out at all of them. So as usual Amazon to the rescue, just had to wait three days to arrive. This morning I cleaned the pump inlet and the pipe then applied Loctite and pushed the pipe in 3/4” until it stopped. Quick check on orientation of the pipe. Thanks David for that suggestion. Then I added a bead of seal all around the outside of the pipe and pump the best I could. It would have been better with the pump out, but didn’t want to fuss with that. Tomorrow I’ll attach the hose to the pump and tank and fill with oil. That’s my birthday ramble for the day. Harry
