Newest addition to the fleet...

It isn't a Case...and you can't drive it...but my little guy will hopefully get a good night's sleep in it!

I've been working on this bed for a while in the evenings when my 3 little ones are asleep. My youngest (almost 2 1/2) is of course obsessed with tractors, trucks and all/any other heavy equipment (apple doesn't fall far...) and when asked what kind of bed he wanted it was of course "a tractor bed!"

I found some plans online and then ended up modifying a few parts. Why an International 986? It was one of many my grandfather (mom's side) had but was by far his biggest back when he farmed. I have many memories of being in the cab with him and my brother as a youngster. His name was Grenville and my son and I share his name as our middle name. He passed at the age of 92 one day before my son was born. So in addition to being a "big boy tractor bed" it's a nice way to pay tribute to my wonderful grandfather too!

Thinking I might need one too...maybe a Case 444 to suit a California queen size mattress. Surely my wife would love it, don't you think? :)ImageImageImageImage

@Chad Merri is wondering if the blanket is hand made? She also gave a thumbs up to the bed.

Wow @Chad , that's a wonderful project! Your boy will remember this bed for his life. And what great tribute to your grandfather too.

I wish I had the skills to do something like this. Problem is we got two boys into tractors, and I'd have to build two beds, exactly the same. :)

Thanks guys! @Eugen I'm sure you could, it's all made from dimensional lumber and held together with lag bolts. And funny you mentioned that - my oldest daughter wants one just like his now! lol.

@Spike188 yes it's a quilt hand sewn by my mom. Tonka toys pattern print on one side and all of the various machines all cut out and sewn on the other. She's been quilting and sewing for as long as I can remember (she's 63). Our 2 girls each have their own and my wife and I have one or two. All my siblings and my nieces as well, I'd be happy to show some of her other work. It's a special skill to be sure, and I can certainly appreciate why they are so expensive to buy.
