Colt Case Ingersoll Garden Tractors

So the Case 224 might make it to the old wood splitter tomorrow. I’ve been wanting to hook this Case to the wood splitter for a while now and each time I get close to doing that, something changes and it gets put off. Sooo, I cut the grass at home tonite and when finished I put it on the trailer. So that’s a step toward getting it hooked to the splitter.
The splitter used to be hooked to my TEA20 Ferguson tractor. It would split most any thing but was slow to move. Ferguson pump is about 2 to 3 gpm flow. So I’ve been curious how this Case tractor with 8 gpm runs it. Since I got the tractor, almost two years ago now, I’ve been wanting to hook the Case to the splitter.
Tomorrow maybe the day.
Drive oil in the pump and hydraulic motor took a while to cool today after cutting the grass, got up to 132F, which is normal for it, but it was hotter today than the other days I was testing it. 81F with a feels like 95F here today.

So will see what happens tomorrow.

I’m going to check the oil level in the tractor and top it up. The old splitter cylinder is retracted and the hoses will have oil in them. But will surely take your advice and take oil too.
This splitter has hydraulic oil in to from the Ferguson tractor. But only in the hoses. So not very much.
Once I’m done I am planning to change the oil in the hydraulic system in the tractor. This is something I’ve been wanting to do for quite a while. But wanted to wait until I played with the splitter first.
Sooo, things are still in go ahead mode for today, no mayhem to change plans, yet, so onward we go.

The front tires on the 224 look good Noel. Good luck with the splitter. I'm fighting my 224 again it's missing firing at full throttle after it ran perfectly for 2 weeks I'm going to open a new thread on that.

Noel that’s what I was thinking. What kind of oil was in the Ferguson hydraulic system, as it wiuld be in the splitter. Good luck splitting. Harry

Can’t say what kind Harry. All I know the Ferguson has a light hydraulic oil. You can run most anything in the Ferguson depending on temperature. And what you want to use.

Soooo, it works. At first I had the pto hand moved reward. Spiltter would not work, so put the handle in the forward position and away the splitter worked. Set for 5 years, worked great and no leaks.
Hydraulic oil temperature was 74F when I started and when I ended it was 102F, for that amount of wood that was split. When I cut grass it gets to 132F. So I don’t think it will get to hot splitting wood. Nice that ther is a cooler on this tractor. Old Ferguson did not have a cooler. That was just the way it was back then, I’d say.
So about 2500/2600 rpm seems to be a good spot for the speed of the splitter and noise from the tractor.
Will do more soon. Have some apple wood to do. That’ll make her grunt. Hehe.
