Attachment knob?

I've checked all the owners manuals in the library and there seems to be none that show this knob.

What does it do? Is it supposed to slide up and down? I can't get it to do that but I am able to unscrew it. On the the threaded rod there is a triangular piece of metal sticking off of it. Has me wondering what its for and if the knob is broken?

Any info is appreciated. Thank you all and happy Easter to those of you celebrating!

It's a "down stop" setting. It controls the point that your hydraulic mid (deck) lift stops when travelling downward.

The mowing deck isn't supposed to need it, but say you had the front blade on... you could set the down stop so that your blade rides a half in above the ground. Or whatever.

It also makes a handy improvised selector valve if you have a 3 pt lift: Put your deck lift all the way up, then dial the down stop fully in. Now the deck can't move at all. So all your power now goes to the 3 pt.

So is it screwed in and out? Or is it pulled up and down?

Thanks for the explanation!

It screws in and out. If I recall correctly, the farther in you screw it, the more you're restricting your mid lift's travel range.

So I left mine WAY unscrewed most of the time.
