Lost, then found.

A number of years in between the lost and found !!!!

Got a princess auto gift card at Christmas. Figured that’s great. So when to use it in February or so and couldn’t find it. Looked through all pockets and other places. Couldn’t find it. Thought about it every now and then for 6 months I’m guessing. So the next Christmas came and was asked if I ever found it. I say no. I said, I figure it will show up some day or it’s just gone.
Was thought about the odd time for a couple years and it became sorta a joke.
So, today, while cleaning off a shelf to put a fan on to move air in the garage for winter, there it was. Found, after sitting there all this time. A few papers were on it.
Gift card was bought in 2016 and I got it for Xmas that year.
Makes a fella wonder how he makes it through the day.
And I know of two other times that happened to me. One was a Canadian tire winch. Lost, figured one of sons buddies may have took it. Look and looked for months. Even looked in the house. Just figured somebody took it. Looking for something one day in a box. There was the winch. Was covered by a rag. Time wise on that lost and found was about 6 to 12 months.
One more. Had a vibration tach. Used it a little bit. Went looking for it to use, lost. Looked and looked for weeks or months. Figured well it’s gone. So went and bought another one. First one cost 20 bucks. Second one cost 40 bucks. Any way. Moved a box on the rambler car, and there was the old one. This happened on the very same day I bought the new one !!!!!

Now there’s a lost and found ramble for you.

You are not alone in the lost and found department . Some days I feel like there are gremlins hiding all my stuff just as I want to use it just to see how much I will lose my mind over it . My sanity , marbles and my mind are just like my virginity . Gone long ago .

Boy I sure know what that’s like! Sometimes I set a wrench down and then spend 20 minutes looking for it! I’ll share a lost and found. I changed the oil in my car, cleaned up and was putting tools away and I couldn’t find my oil filter wrench. I looked everywhere, on the ground, under the hood, on the bench, nope it’s gone. What the :cuss:! I gave up looking and went and bought another one. Next oil change I pop the hood and get thing ready an lo and behold there is my wrench laying down there on top of the transmission cooler lines. :headbash: ! It rode around down there for 3000 miles. That was many vehicles ago but I still have both those filer wrenches!

That’s just one in a long list for me! Glad you found the card! I guess I’ll call this lost and found ramble continued!

Ya, how many tools went for a ride in the car. And then found. Amazing they stay in place for months.

Noel, it happens to me a lot too. My last adventure was with that big rectifier. Bought it about two years ago because I had wanted to switch my AC welder to DC for a long time, just never got around to it. Looks for it for the last week, a lot. Finally found it the day before yesterday. I almost went to buy another one. But there are things I lost and found after a year, having given up on them. What are you gonna do, it is what it is. :violin:

Over the years of working in the auto shops I lost a number of tools this way . I know I am not alone in this as I also have gained a lot of other mechanics "lost" tool this way . :))

You guys are not alone loosing tools. A technique I use is cat like. Appear to be distracted, do a bit of work area cleanup, or move to another step in the project. The lost item usually shows up quickly. Another habit is placing a shop rag within reach. Loose parts and tools are placed on them. The rag is easy to spot and misplaced items have been greatly reduced.

Been there done all of that, and if that were not bad enough the :wife: helps by relocating stuff and NOT remember doing it :headbash:

Funniest one was as a kid, grandma lost her favorite dish rag. We stopped over for a visit and super 2 months later, when she went to the freezer to get a frozen cream pie, we heard her say (in German) God in Heaven. Yep she came out with the frozen rag and the pie ;)
