@myerslawnandgarden Bob using a dollar bill won't work up here these days . Our

$1 and $2 dollars are large coins and the bills are plastic .

But that does have its advantages . When Covid hit , we were "laundering our money " by washing it in the sink with dish soap and water .

Try that with paper $$$ . We don't have anything smaller than a nickle any more .

Forgive me if I tell you things you all ready know , this is a reminder for others as well.
Test the coil (wires off ) Should be between 3.5 and 5 ohms primary side for internal resisted . I had one boxed/ labled wrong . They all look the same .
The points film can be from what / how you are cleaning them . Some fine sand paper can leave a film . Oil from your fingers on a points file can also leave film . Oil vapour from crankcase as well , gasket on point cover/ plunger worn ,type of oil being used . Always use clean white paper to clean contacts after cleaning and use finest available abrasives to leave the smoothest polished surface on contacts .
The carbs problem maybe the electric fuel pump / inline filter combination. I have had fuel filters not fused together inside and let stuff past. I have also seen electric pumps force stuff past fuel filters meant for gravity applications . Do you have filter before or after pump and what kind . The inner wall of the hose could be deteriorating due age, alcohol in fuel (ethenal or methalhidrate ), or poor quality .
What no heated space to work

! You mean the

won't let you rebuild an engine on the kitchen table . I mean thats just rude .

If I didn't have heat in my work shop, I would be stuck inside all winter . That would not end well . So I feel for anyone out in the cold .
I hope this helps you find something .
you may keep the change
My other half would be much happier if I had a nice heated garage so she could work on her motorcycle... Sadly she doesn't have one at her house either.
I'll have to check the filter. It is entirely possible I have a gravity flow unit on it. Also pretty sure it's after the pump. Pump is the correct low pressure pump, but certianly possible it's pushing the filter apart...
The seals on the points cover are ok, but certianly not perfect. Probably not helping that I've been in and out of there so much, and in a foul mood when doing so. Plunger is steel if memory serves. Oil is Rotella 15-40. Been using paper towels for the cleaning, but since I'm getting new business cards, I think I'll put a ziplock of the old ones out in the barn for points work. Paper doesn't survive long in the barn unless protected. Points file is basically new, and I don't go near the business end. Might have picked up film from storage though... I'll have to hit it with some alcohol.

Best to use plain white paper , some printer ink is oil based and can leave a film . Virgin card stock is the safest if you can get it . Trying to work in the cold is no fun . If I didn't have a heated shop , I am sure my temper would melt the near by snow trying to do anything outside this time of year .
So for any of you like me who are jellius of those that go south for winter . They got hammer with snow the likes they never seen down there . As cold and snowy it has been here , I have not seen a black fly or mosquitoes here in months .

Long ago, I spent a year in Mississippi. I was heading up to Memphis for a flight to NJ for Christmas break. For some freakish reason, there was a dusting of snow that day. Snow that most of us wouldn't even consider snow... The kind that just blow out of the way when you're driving.
About the entire state shut down. There were cars so far off the highway in ditches it looked like a tornado had thrown them there. I checked for black ice, and nothing... Folks that don't know snow have a real issue with even the thought of it...

We go to Florida every winter for two weeks on Captiva island near Ft Meyers. Left Wednesday from Lockport it was -9 degrees F. Along Rt 90 to Erie Pa it was slow in some areas due to snow but not bad for a guy who has driven in snow for ever. The rest of the trip was not bad except for Georgia. Road crews working to remove ice from the shoulders, over the bridges and under the overpasses slowed driving down to a crawl in some areas. Now in Florida at 55 degrees F but still have 8 hours driving tomorrow to get to Captiva.

So yesterday morning we had about 3" of snow from the night before , all powder with some drifting because it is as cold as hell out the last few days . No problem with blower tractor , right . Well sure if it would start .

. had it plugged in for an hour still no go , usually only take 1/2 hour plugged in to go .

turns out the block heater I put in the oil pan failed.

It is kept in the lean-too of the back of the barn , so is out of weather but not heated . Micro furnace blowing on the block and an hour later we have fire in the hole and the driveway cleared . New block heater is on order and should have it tonight . Only pain is the oil has to be drained to change it as it is in the original drain plug .

Can't complain , as this is the only set back I have had with this tractor since building it .
