First, I want to thank all of you who joined, and also are active. The forum software is decently usable now, and I will continue to look into improvements.

The site has been registered for google indexing, and the bot has visited us already.

I am not one to sabotage other sites, so will not go around and post our existence there; in any case I'd get banned. I mentioned the existence of the site on the Facebook group Colt, Case & Ingersoll Garden Tractor and they deleted the post very quickly, although a forum is a very different experience than a Facebook group, with history and archive more easily categorized.

I believe that content here will grow, and we already have a bunch of people here who are experienced in various technical aspects, so we can be useful to the potential new users.

Word of mouth can certainly help too.

I think it's all going to come together. A little time to get "out there" will help. Once it starts coming up in goggle searches it will come.🤞
You've been a busy guy.

I found us on Google by searching "Case Colt Ingersoll Garden Tractors Spike188" . Looks like the googlebot is not only visiting, it's keeping score.

Also found out that I am not the only person that uses Spike188.

I don't know how that can be, but to us there is only one Spike188, and that is you!

Yes, you did notice google started indexing us. I had to actually put some manual labour into creating a sitemap.xml, just handhold the google bot a little. But it worked.

Found out tonight that the new ownership of the old site apparently has lost the server hosting all the manuals. Out of respect for and to help the community of Colt Case and Ingersoll garden tractors I published all those manuals on our site at:

https://manuals.ccigt.com

Does anyone know the legal - copyright ins and out of scanning the manuals? I've got a 1/2 dozen paper manuals and a scanner so I could make copies, but are the manual's 'public domain' since CCI - ingersoll company no longer exists? Or?

I've got a but load of the watermarked CCI manuals on my computer, but I'm not going to pass those around since they belong to that site.

Hi Scott,

My feeling about the copyright is that I really don't think that the other site has or is paying for the right to publish the manuals on pdf. There is another site with lots and lots of manuals for Case garden tractors:

http://www.casegardentractorsinfo.com/

There are quite a few manuals on mytractorforum.com as well.

Therefore, I think we would be safe to host pdf manuals here. But it's just an opinion, of course. This does not mean I'm asking you to do all that scanning work :)

Continuing work on the site:
  • Resolved an issue with the TLS certificate.
  • Tightened up security.
  • Off-site backups are being performed nightly.
  • Added a whole bunch of much nicer smilies, and more to come. Wish I could find those smilies used on the old site, if they were public domain. :132: :4:
  • Looking into creating some sort of menu entry on the main page, to point to https://manuals.ccigt.com for instance.

Hi all,
This morning I got the invoice for the next three months of hosting from the website hosting company, which just reminded me how fast time passes. It's hard to believe that almost three months passed. I am glad we are where we are, eventhough it feels like a town with 10 residents :D

As I said before, this site is here to stay. Thank you all for being active and keeping the site alive!

The hosting site has been having problems with the hardware hosting the virtual server we're running the forum on, so there may be again a few interruptions until they sort out the issues. :sigh:

I took advantage of the downtime yesterday and made some pretty big changes to the site, but it's not really visible. When you get hosting from these companies they typically give you an installation of software which is easily managed through a web interface, but that has the downside that the stupid interface controls the versions of various packages that you may need. So we were running a really old apache web server. I decoupled that yesterday, and now we're using a current version of the web server. Should be more secure, and also easier to maintain the other changes I made.

Created a new name for the manuals section, sort of like a separate website, but it's not really.
https://manuals.ccigt.com

I have done this to improve visibility and also to fix a problem with the google search console. Hopefully this will bring us up on the google search.

Another thing I've done is to add the domain
www.ccigt.com

and make all these domains go by default to a secure https connection, even if you type in http://ccigt.com

Two things have happened behind the scenes. 1. Apparently the forum emailing system has malfunctioned for at least two weeks. 2. Some new folks were not able to register because the Q&A anti-spam feature was confusing. The net result was that a couple of these people sent email via the forum system, which didn't make it to me. Luckily the system did log the entries and I was able to find that as I look things over from time to time. After I changed the Q&A anti-spam question to be less confusing (I hope) I proceeded to send an email to the prospective new members apologizing and encouraging them to register again. I'm glad they actually did register and hope they will find the forum both useful and fun! Welcome @DarrenMc and @candp!

I have changed some forum settings at @ras101 suggestions. We are able to have now what's called "sticky" topics. What that means is that some discussions/threads/topics will always appear at the top of a section. This is useful when they contain information that is very important to find quickly. In Ray's case it is 3D drawings of various parts, in the Technical Library -> Drawings, CAD, Design. Therefore, any discussion that has a 3D model as attachment will appear at the top in that section. Furthermore, we will do our best to keep the relevant files attached to the initial/first post in the discussion. The discussion can be hundreds of posts long, but the first post will always contain the important files(s). :wave2:

Good call guys . Some of these post can get off topic as we have fun talking about things . Not that it is a bad thing . Some of the best discussions here have come from getting "off topic " .

Hm... did you guys get the notifications about forums discontinuing tapatalk access? If you're not familiar with tapatalk, it is an app for mobile devices which allows you to add multiple forums and provides a way to access those forums in that app, as opposed to a browser. This can make it easier if you're regularly reading and posting on multiple forums, as you have that all in one place.

I rarely use tapatalk but do have it on my phone for several forums. I received an email notice from multiple forums that tapatalk is not going to be allowed to access those forums. I have a feeling that all those forums are owned by the one and only Vertical Scope, who owns casecoltingersoll.com as well. The message I got is below:
We originally granted Tapatalk access to our forum in order to provide a better mobile experience for our members. Last month, Tapatalk notified us that they are changing ownership. After reviewing their service, other forums’ experiences, and member feedback, we have decided to wind down Tapatalk’s access to Case Colt Ingersoll Tractors on Sep 21, 2023. This means that Case Colt Ingersoll Tractors will no longer be available on Tapatalk after that date.

Please note that your account information and password have not changed. If you need to reset your password, you may request a new password here.

We realize that some of you use Tapatalk regularly, and apologize for the inconvenience. Alternatives include the mobile web view of the forum and the Fora app, which is available for iOS and Android

Thank you for your continued support of Case Colt Ingersoll Tractors. If you have questions, feel free to DM us on the forum.

– The Case Colt Ingersoll Tractors team

The reason for doing this is not clear to me. Kinda shady if you ask me. :geek: :hm:

BTW, our forum does have tapatalk access and I got no message from tapatalk about any change in ownership, or in fact, about anything. I know that some of you guys like reading the forum using tapatalk so I have enabled access to the forum via tapatalk, and chose, of course, the Free option.
Screenshot 2023-09-14 at 09.38.54.png
As you can see below, as a forum owner you can choose an upgraded type of tapatalk access, or Free. Our forum, ccigt.com, has absolutely no ads if you access it in a browser. I do not intend to sign up for a paid upgrade of tapatalk access.

Eugen, I for one am 100% behind NOT using tapatalk for our site. I tried in the distant past to access a previous site and regretted my action from the very start! Made no sense what so ever to change even when accessing the site from a mobile phone using a web browser. For me this is my go to site...and one I share my updates too. The other sites are getting way too political.. Ray

I made a change in the forum account registration procedure. It won't affect any of you but I thought it would be good to tell you about it. There was an anti-bot feature upon registration, which was a question to answer. But there were human spam accounts which were getting registered and it was getting annoying having to delete and ban them. So I turned on Google captcha v3 which I had no experience with. I don't know what magic soup algorithm Google is using but in the last week and a half no more spam accounts got registered. It also shows me a report. Hope it keeps on working well.

@RoamingGnome I check each account manually so they got deleted and banned before they could start spamming us.

@myerslawnandgarden it's not a paid service. The amount and details of what is being continuously recorded about each of us is huge. Inside google there are levels upon levels of security, actual access to that data is very restricted. However, various algorithms do have "analysis" type access. Also, if push comes to shove, various gov entities can get access. It's the price we pay for using the services. Old news, really. The moment you get a mobile phone and/or use simple services on the internet, you basically agree to being tracked. What they can do with this data it's another story though; mostly nothing, I guess, unless you are important. I somehow revel in knowing I'm a nobody and whether I take a leak on the side of the road or not is inconsequential to the powers to be. :violin: :wave2:

No Bob, it's not part of Analytics. It has a separate web page, you go to this address

https://www.google.com/recaptcha/

and there's a little procedure to do, it gets somehow associated with your Google account. You can "hook" multiple websites that you own to that using the Recaptcha Admin Console which you will see on that link. The forum software had the mechanism for adding this built in, but still I had to generate a key for the site in the admin console. There are instructions on the procedure easy to find if you google "google recaptcha v3 instructions". I can tell you that so far I'm glad I turned it on for our forum.

They say it's not something they did, but maybe our server crashed from too much memory usage. Oh well, our server has 1G of RAM and is using constantly around 700MB, so I suppose if it did need more it just crashed. That sucks, because moving to a server with more memory is a lot more money and we don't have that. I'll just try to optimize the usage somewhat. :weld1:

Site was down yesterday, @Spike188 notified me and I brought it up. Today it happened again, now I have setup a service down notification. It concerns me a bit, I'm wondering if we're under attack. Seems to me twice in a 24h stretch is too much. As far as I can tell we have no software problems, so... I'm keeping an eye on it, but I'm sorry if the site goes down again, we're not a commercial service, so I'm doing the best I can to bring it up quickly. :!:

Hi all, first, I apologize for the site not working as it should. We're being plagued by some problems. I got a message from our service provider that we're close to 2 TB of traffic this month and that if we go over there will be a penalty. Haven't looked yet into what penalty means, but it's probably extra $. The other bad news is that I don't know what caused this and I'm actively trying to figure it out.

The other bad news is that I've upgraded the operating system which totally broke the site. Took me a while to bring it up to this state being able to post a message and browse the forum. Will keep an eye on it for now.

Eugen wrote: Mon Apr 21, 2025 11:42 am Hi all, first, I apologize for the site not working as it should.

I don't understand how it could have that much traffic . This site like most lately have been on the quieter side of things .

Our site has been under heavy load by bots from various countries. This morning the site was barely responsive. Do I banned Vietnam, India, Indonesia, China, Singapore, Japan, and Brazil for now. As far as I know we have no users from these countries.

In other news, our forum database has grown so large that the memory given to us by the service provider is too small. That's why you run into errors sometime. The solution would be to upgrade the service, but I barely can make the payments now ($13 CAD/month) let alone going to the upgrade which is significantly more. I don't know what we'll do. :pullhair:

@Eugen I really appreciate what you do in support of this forum... :worship:

I know there is only a handful of members that regularly interact with the forum - either through "likes" "comments" or starting new threads and I really, really like not having to sort through ads or other revenue generating content when I'm on here...

I would be willing to make a small contribution to help offset the expense of running the forum and wonder... would having a paid membership level help discourage the bots? :hm:

I really appreciate you too @Eugen

I suppose the responsible thing to do is look at the options. Not saying I know what they all could be but some would be:

1) We all agree to chip in what we can to maintain the site.
@RoamingGnome brings up a good thought about a possible paid subscription.

2) The decision is made to allow advertisers on here to off set costs. While I know it’s not something any of us want, it is a viable way to keep going.

3) Perhaps we all exchange contact information and go our separate ways and let the site go. Things do change and this may just be another change that comes into our lives.

4) Is it possible to transfer the technical library to some sort of facebook group and we all convene there? I’m not on facebook, but I would be willing to get it to do something like that.

5) ????? What other options am I missing?

Gerry brings up another good point in that there only a few of us that regularly interact. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, it just is.

With everything @Eugen is trying to accomplish for himself and his family at this point I don’t know if I really feel like its fair for him to shoulder the weight of this site on his own.

Eugen you made this happen and opened the door for us to gather, and you are running it so if you have to make a decision just know no matter what it may be I support it.

How about a voluntary donation from the one that use it regularly . ??? I could drop $20 easily if a dozen of us did that one a year . would that help take it to the next level ? @Eugen

I got some good news. Found a Canadian hosting site that costs about 150 USD per year and would give us 8 times more memory and qudruple the processing power. They have a lower cost one, at about $90 USD, which has enough memory and processing power but only gives a 120G disk, which we're going to fill up quickly. Maybe we should still opt for the cheaper option and hope we can stay with the lower disk space. I'll keep on looking for a cheaper hosting.

I am not going to ask you for money but any little donation would be appreciated, you all know I'm not employed at the moment. :writing:

The good news is that prices were a lot higher a year ago when I checked. Maybe I'll set up a PayPal button or whatever you folks think would be easiest.

As for the other options that Jeff mentioned, they are all on the table. I intend to come back to posting regularly, but if if you guys would think we should better move to Facebook or the old cci site, sad as I'd be, I will respect the decision. :124:

@Eugen as others have mentioned, there are others sites and groups we could join that would be cheaper (free). I like ccigt.com because it feels personal and safe. I will continue to support this group any way that is needed, Having Eugen's expertise as an IT professional is above my skill set. With out those skills we would flounder.

I have met many of you while traveling about, Thanks to this site. Good friends and good times.

Spike.

So it sounds to me like those of us that are here regularly are all willing to contribute to help keep the site going.

As @Spike188 said, without Eugen doing the IT work we would be lost.

I don’t know if it’s necessary to say but I’ll throw it out there, keep in mind going forward we may need fundraisers. I just don’t want anyone to feel bad or upset when they either have to solicit for funds or if they can’t contribute as much as they would like.

I feel they same way about this place as you guys do, and besides we can’t leave now, we haven’t got to see the next step in @Eugen adventure yet! :D

If I’m not reading the room correctly you guys please speak up, but it certainly seems to me we have a consensus.

Haha, @JSinMO, I'll make an effort to return to more action here. I've been wanting to do that.

So, the best match I found so far for site hosting is from this company named ionos. The price is in CAD. It would be a big upgrade for us. We're running right now on one core, 1GB of RAM, and 150GB of disk space. I'll look for another day or so but if any of you know a better deal please lmk.

Hi all,
I haven't been able to transfer the site to the upgraded hosting because of severe lack of time. Meanwhile I've also been paying the current hosting myself but it's getting harder and harder as I haven't been employed in over a year. The current invoice is for 47.77 Canadian dollars, which is about 35 USD and covers the site for three months. Any little help would be appreciated guys.

It's paid.

Thanks you all, much appreciated! @Spike188 honoured the bill for the next quarter. You probably noticed no more new users lately. This is probably because I had to turn off robot crawling, so Google skips us momentarily. The site was being killed by the volume of traffic caused by the robots. I really want us to move to the other provider and upgraded service, then I'll turn on the crawling again. I just need to find the time and energy to deal with the site move, plus I have to store somewhere temporarily the entire 150GB of data.

This is my update. :wave3:

Eugen, I too would be willing to sponsor for another 3 months or more. Tell me how to do it, and it will be done. I know I haven't posted for quite some time. Had some issues for a while there!

For whatever it is worth: I sold the 4118 and mower deck last summer to a guy that he and his dad used to have a 446 and they liked it a lot but it tried to run away every time they went down a hill. Gee whize! Anybody ever seen that???? Anyway he, as well as many who saw it thought it looked Brand new. Which is why I was some anal about tearing everything apart and rebuilding to "like new" And then I really got anal about getting the paint just right.

He decided to run it up down hill at my house with the deck kicked in a few times and when he stopped I asked what he thought. He stated that he really like the power steering, and he liked the way the newer tractors have solved the free wheeling. He stated that he needed to talk to his father about the issue. No Problem for me! Next day he hands me $1000 and asked if I could hold it for 2 weeks till he got paid. 2 days later he shows up with the rest of the money and offers me an extra $100 to deliver it 13 miles up the road. I declined the extra offer and delivered it the next day.

Both he and his father think it is a wonderful tractor. And they got to use it for a few months before winter set in last fall.

Anyway let me know how I go about get money to you for sure. I don't mind you having the money now, even though you might have enough currently. An AG Chat site I go to takes donations about once a year and only has the window open for a few hours before their needs are met. Sometimes it happens so fast that I haven't gotten my donation in soon enough!

Keep up the good work!

Bill Moyer

Bill, first of all, so nice to hear from you! Great story about the 4118!

If you can, please come by more often. As for the donation, I'll send you a private message. We're OK for another 1.5 months but we need to go to a new provider and it's most economical if we subscribe for one or two years in advance. Scott @sdunt has already donated $25 and all other donations will go towards that. I'll have to recreate the site on a different provider system, so it won't be the easiest task there, but we must move.

Eugen, I assume you have my email to post to me. Glad to do it. Last summer when I was trying to sell the 4118, I had somehow misplaced my ability to sign into this site, and it was a very busy time due to some other issues, so I just wasn't getting signed back in. I enjoy this site and it has a purpose that needed to be addressed at the time the other site was sold again. Some of their issues have been address, some have not.

I recently tightened the security on my web browser recently , just to discover that it no longer wants me to sign onto the other site because it has advertising on it. I knew that, but never thought of it till it no longer allowed me easy access because of that advertising.

Oh well ! Life goes on and you are doing a great job!

Thanks! Bill

Eugen, I would like to contribute something, but have no idea how to. And so if you could let me know what to do, I’ll try and do that. I’m not to smart at doing this stuff, so I will get my son to help.

OK folks, I'll follow up with instructions.

I feel motivated right now so I'll go ahead and place an order for a new server over at the new host. It'll be $142.45 USD. I'll pay for it and then accept donations. It'll take me a little while to move the site over to the new host, but should be done by the end of the current pay cycle at the old hosting service, which is about 1.5 months from now. At some point I'll announce a downtime for the final switch. Will keep everyone updated. Also, I'll let everyone who said they could help with funds know how it can be done, in a private message.

Forum update, April 2nd 2026
We are now full moved to a new provider server. The new server is paid for one year in advance, for the sum of $161 USD. This was discounted for new customers, probably next year it will be a little more. I think the price is normally $14.50 USD per month.

I've taken the opportunity to upgrade the forum software, which was long overdue. It all seems to work but if you discover issues, please report. I've also removed the google restriction so now we will be invaded by crawling bots; the benefit is that we might get new users, as the forum will once again show in google searches.

The only thing that I haven't yet configured is an email sending security mechanism, so, unfortunately, email messages sent by the forum to user accounts might be put in the spam folder. I'll fix this issue in one of the next few nights, which is the only time I get to work on such things. To give you an idea what I'm working on during the day... bricklaying.
