I just got back home from a two week vacation in South Carolina. Driving home there were some spectacular foliage views in the mountains of Virginia and West Virginia. :peace: Harry

Working quite a ways from home again today. I ended up on a small bluff above the Missouri River and came upon what looked like a small family burial site.

Turns out there were revolutionary war and war of 1812 veterans there, including probably our most famous early pioneer Daniel Boone.

It was interesting to me that this very important figure in the early settlement of this area is here in a small cemetery on a peaceful hillside with no big signs or hoopla pointing to it.

I generally dislike traveling for work but stumbling onto history like this makes it worth it.

Looks very peaceful there. I looked up Daniel Boone's life. I wonder how they decided to name the settlement Transylvania. :hm:

Apparently he worked for a business called the Transylvania company when he blazed the wilderness trail into Kentucky.
Here’s the link to the Wikipedia page.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transyl ... 0Tennessee.

His sons house where he spent his last days still stands and is a historic site run by the state of Missouri. It’s in the area of the cemetery but as I recall it’s several miles away. We visited it years ago. Probably should go see it again

@JSinMO - It's amazing what you will find exploring off the beaten path, I am so surprised that a larger than life figure like Daniel Boone would have such a quiet and peaceful final resting spot. I also would have expected more pomp and hoopla... Perhaps Daniel appreciates it this way :)
