I've been running mid or high grade, No Ethenol in all my small engines for the last few years with good success. This was a txt video of her blowing their drive for the first time, 2021. I never thought about it until now, the BCS is older than Laura. I bought it at an rental closeout auction over 20 years ago.
Like the video, memories become fuzzy but the relationship with her is anything but.

Rich=Carbon=pinging.
Almost all the old flat heads called for SAE. 30 summer / 10w30 below freezing .
I run regular with Seafoam 2 ounces per 5 gallon of gas year round . High test is a waist of money unless you a high compression engine , besides almost all high test has Ethanol in anyway . Flat heads are low compression engines which is part of the reason the tend to carbon up / incomplete burn .
Try Seafoam in regular fuel and switch to 10w40 diesel . I think you will be pleasantly surprised . I would do this before making any adjustments unless way off base settings . Tranny fluid in the oil will only thin it out and cause more burn off .
