A/C GT for Dad

In Dec. 2021 I was given this Allis Chalmers B-112 barn find . Sat for over 15 years to that point . Got it running in the spring of 2022 . The plan was to have it fully restored for Dad's 80th this month. Summer 2022 it was completly disassembled , parts requiered list made and sand blasting started . The big parts were done first leaving the smalls to do in the cabinet blaster over winter . With all parts blasted and treated ready for paint , as soon as weather was warm enough to spray base yellow (sanding coat). Spring of 2023 I got 3/4 of the parts painted . Before I could get back to paint the last of the parts I blew the bottom disk in my back pulling vine ROOTs in the

flower garden

. Spent most of the spring and summer on the IL list again

. The end of August I was able to get the last pieces painted . The end of the week looks like my best chance to get the parts in final paint . Enamal with reducer and hardener sprayed outside . Then left to harden for a few weeks before reassembling can begin.
So now I have a couple of days to get all these yellow parts sanded out ready for final paint .

Great work there Dave! The "left to harden for a few weeks" is something that makes me not want to do something like this ever. But I know the results are going to be amazing and sometimes I wish I could do that sort of think. You have my respect for your level of craftsmanship!

leanto off back of shop . Free brick over gravel has great drainage and is easy to move stuff around on .

That’s a great idea on a brick floor David. I have lots of bricks that I’ve collected for no reason other than they were free. It would be a big job but I could lay them down in my lean to behind my shop. It would make a great floor over the millings that are in there now. Thanks for the idea David.

Well it's confirmed . I am paying for it today . Everything hurts and fell like I ran a marathon . But it is done for now . Very little dust in it , but every time the breeze die off the bugs landed and had to go around with tweezers before next coat . Need to make some sort of spray booth for next year. Parts went back into the shop at the end of the day to be baked off for the weekend at 80 F .

It all seamed ok driving it around , but when I tore it down I found the 90 degree gear box dry and the gears and front shaft destroyed . That was an expencive fix . The motor is in great shape and will get all new gaskets, seals ,paint , valve job and stickers like OEM . Carb and Ignition have already been done .

Always nice when you are assembling clean, freshly painted parts and components.
Any challenges keeping the air & abrasive media dry in this weather? I really need to add an air dryer into my compressor setup.

Use a 50' hose laid on the floor to cool the air and condense water vapour , then through a water trap before going to blaster . Seams to work for my small blaster .

Hey Dave, nice machine. I like AC's, I have a '63 Simplicity 725 which is similar (and a Sovereign 3416H, and a Wonder Boy). I take it yours is a Shuttle Drive. Tell me how you like the SD. Did your dad have his birthday?
PS. When will you be done, I need your help.

I do not know what Shuttle drive is . This has a 7 position verifiable belt drive with a 3 speed trans-axle for a total 21 speeds forward and 7 in reverse. I have not driven it since all drive being rebuilt , so don't know yet .
Hopefully soon , Dads 80th was last September . What do you need help with ?

We had a bigger Allis tractor at home when I was a kid. Something like these.
The wedge on those was for the steering column and I think there might have been gauges in there too. One of the other guys might know for sure but I think the GT version was just for looks so it matched the bigger tractors. I think the GT just had a decal on the wedge face.

The wedge has a "racing stripe" so you can cut faster .

. Practically it covers the battery and fuel cap/gauge from weather and on the back side has the shift pattern decal .

Rear axle seal in finally and installed . (a month out of the states ) . Rear tires on the rim with new paint . The baby moons give it a neat old school look .
This what the rims looked like after pulling the original tires off . These got good paint and the part number on them . Only the outside needed doing . Don't see that much , but back then they were built to last .

Thanks , I have had a blast .It is something I needed . I go each day , but can only stay for a few hours . The koolest stuff is later in the day , by that time I am back home . If I do this next year I will figure out some way of camping the weekend so I can enjoy the evening festivities .
