As I recall it was a 2013, and yah $26,000 for the new battery pack seems a little steep 
Thought there are some questioning how he treated that car and battery pack. Others with the same model and year, say theirs is still going strong. 
Have you heard what they are trying to pass in California? Fortunately Massachusetts where I live is not taxing more fuel efficient and electric vehicles. Massachusetts actually has a $2500 EV tax credit for electric vehicles under $50K purchase price in addition to the $7500 federal tax credit. We had a $500 EV charger install credit at one point. Not sure if we still have it.
So much for leading the way to a better planet
