Wire size coil ID and the correct overall length. I ordered my new springs off of Amazon. The repair is relatively easy. The only thing to watch out for is the spring tension. There is A LOT of energy stored in that spring. Make dang sure you don’t let go when winding it, and count the number of turns you need for that spring and door combination. There were some really good videos on YouTube that helped
Thanks. I'm seeing the same sort of info. I recall reading the spring tension should be set to four 1/4 turns per foot of door height + two 1/4 turns. In my case that for an 8' door that's 34 1/4 turns.

I’ve replaced a few of these springs over the years for mine and family members. Sometimes I’ve found I needed to load one spring more than the other to get the door to be even. If I had to have one replaced today I would call a guy I met who works for a door company and does side jobs. Good old boy network. :peace: Harry

Thanks for the advice. I think my existing springs were not tensioned enough. The door would not balance midway up.

Good times working on my garage door :headbash: :cuss:

I had to cut a half coil off the end of the broken spring so that I could access the set screw for removal. I was careful and cut a V into the spring with my grinder. If I had to do it again, I'd cut 1/4 turn at a time instead of 1/2 turn. It popped a little when I cut through the coil but not bad.

The spring and cable drum set screws were all over tightened by the installer. I guess tight means when the set screw head bottoms out and the torsion tube gets crushed :headbash: :cuss: Good times getting this apart.

New springs are on. I slid the torsion tube over so the set screws had a new place to grab. I've had some difficulty getting the springs and cables adjusted. I had to adjust the door so that I could lift it to work on the cables. I can't access the lower end of the cable when the door is down. The left side cable loosens up when the door is raised. If I have time, I will replace the cables tomorrow. Hopefully new cables solve that issue.

Saw this on CL. The add says it's a 224 converted to a 444. https://hartford.craigslist.org/for/d/e ... 42007.html

I like the big tires up front but I'm not sure how they would work with a mowing deck.

This place is quiet lately. @Eugen needs a new project 😂 @Eugen how are the kids doing?

Like most jobs Matt, the people that work on garage doors learn tricks and can do them in short order. I know my guy removed a door on my pole barn, installed it in my lean to and installed a new one on the pole barn in a days work by himself. Some people amaze me how efficiently they work. On another note thanks for posting the 200 series converted to a 400. Unusual GT for sure, I never heard of anyone doing that. Your correct tge site has been slow lately. I’ve been slowly plugging away on the mini loader but life with sports games to attend of grandchildren and cleaning up the garden has taken preference. :peace: Harry

Based on the amount of space between the rear fenders and the tires, they used a 200 series frame with a 400 series transaxle and front axle. You wouldn't be able to use a mower deck unless the rear mounting pins for the mule drive were modified to be lower. I have a tractor here right now that I bought on Marketplace and did not realize what it was from the pictures. Thinking that it will make a good designated tiller tractor for someone, plenty of room for some aggressive ag tires!

Yeah , thing have been quiet lately . Most of the sites are slower right now . I think a lot of people are so busy finishing up summer stuff and getting ready for winter , all the boring stuff and no time to take pictures. I am no diffferent . Plus been activley going to more Fall fairs with the B-112 . I do have a new old piece of equipment for gardening . A kemp shredder I will start a page on that .
Eugen has his hands full getting ready to make the big move right now , so no time for projects . Was out to see him last week . Don't worry guys the site will remain up even when he moves . He assured me of that .
I will be doing some rework of the hydralics to Frankie this winter . Not happy with the set up as it is . Futs is helping me with some parts to sort it out . I will document that as well.

Nice night so I wanted to spent a little up at the shop.

Now I realize to most my shop probably looks like a mess most of the time. But It’s really organized chaos I swear! :giggle:

This is different after I got hurt everything kinda got thrown in here. I can’t even move around so some sort of clean up is on the list. At least I did get to piddle around a bit and listen to the radio for awhile, so still enjoyable!
