Background:
I bought this two years ago when I got my property. It worked well for doing some landscaping and I estimate about 50 hours on it since. I really love this machine, but I am not using it as much as I would like.

I am the third owner. From the history lesson I received, Case gifted it to a logging company up North as an old promotion. They didn’t use it much as it wasn’t large enough for moving around massive logs. Then the person I bought it from, his dad worked there and got it for a retirement from the company. The man I bought it from used it to dig a 400m trench at his property and for general landscaping. I don’t believe the engine has had a tonne of hours over its lifetime.

One of a kind, I've never seen one with a D70. Granted, it's a smaller hoe than a D100 but I don't see any counterweight under the frame. It does look to be in nice condition considering the age.

Good eye on the lack of counterbalance weight. This looks like a great catch for someone.

That D-70 looks like a much better match for the 6xx.
I love my d-100, but it is for sure way more hoe than the 646 can hold down, even with the counterweight.

I've definitely never heard of a D70 on a Case/Ingersoll, are you sure it's original? Can you get a photo from underneath of the rear axle? What's the Serial Number on the tractor?

I've never gotten to use this emote before 😁

I was curious about the backhoe as well. My guess is that its not from factory, probably from a trencher.

Could the frame get damaged from all the pressure when digging?

That's a good thought, it does look like some of the sneakers / trenchers used a D70.

This is pretty open ended, but you could definitely damage the frame from putting too much load on it. Whether that's from bolting a backhoe to the rear or from loading it improperly while digging (not using the stabilizer feet for instance). That being said Case originally bolted a larger more powerful backhoe to the rear of these machines so I don't know that a D70 is inherently a large risk to the tractor. Maybe if the installer didn't add proper bracing through to the front of the tractor. The frames are the same between backhoe and non-backhoe Case/Ingersoll loaders.

This is 646LBH that literally bent in half. It was manufactured the first year the the LBH was offered. The manuel clearly states that the bucket should not be anchored in the ground while using the backhoe, because of damaging the tractor.

The undercourage support bolts were stripped out of the transaxle housing. Undercarage mounting pins were extermly worn and the undercarriage frame was bent.

It was advertised on Marketplace for 1/2 the price of used Davis D100.

Unfortunately it looks like this 646 did not come from the factory with the D70 backhoe. The non-backhoe (webbed) axle, no forward bracing/counterweight, and the fact that it has a fender PTO make it pretty unlikely that it started life as a backhoe model.

That being said this aftermarket addition of the D70 looks relatively well done!
