My neighbour has a few of them for his landscaping buisness , loves them . Sturdy machines , many love them . Me , I find them confusing to drive , but I have difficuties with all stick controls .
I always found the drive controls to be one of the easiest as compared to the two lever systems where you can't even let go of one to scratch your nose. Boy do my arms get tired holding those levers in place.
With the Walker controls, you have one lever to push ahead and set the ground speed which doesn't need to be held. To steer, you just use one finger to move one of the steering levers back against the spring tension and when you let go the machine returns to straight forward at the previous speed.
No need to use both hands to operate, leaves at least one free to answer the phone, pick your nose or enjoy a few.

Yeah , he can drive an 48" deck through a 50" opening with ease , but I can drive one through an 8 foot door without rubbing one side . Give me a steering wheel and it is a different story .

Mine does not have the power dump feature and the dealer wanted $1500 more to install on the machine. I just have to lift the back door and lift the rear bed. It has a arm inside the grass catcher that swings back and forth to distribute the grass or leaves evenly. When it stops moving it’s full and an alarm sounds leting you know it’s full.

Still way nicer than bags .

This one has a 48” deck and like you mentioned Bob easy to drive. The dealer gave me the drive by training and I played with it in their parking lot. The backed ip unto my trailer and brought it home. It will take me a few times to master driving it though. I liked the easy to drive and bagger unit. It should cut my mowing time in half compared to my CC.
I did not realize that they now had a 48" rear discharge deck to go with the air handling system. 42" was the standard size and 54" side discharge when we sold them. Makes sense with the larger engine.

The grave yards here use those mowers. Well built machines I’d say. Even the fella I buy small engine parts from has one. I think the deck flips up for easy cleaning.
Nice one Harry.

Yes the deck in front flips up for cleaning and servicing the blades. They do sell a 54” rear discharge deck which I considered but decided against it when the dealer explained the blades are gear timed and the 54” deck one blade turns CW and the other CCW. This aids the rear discharge.

Harry, does your 48" not have the CW and CCW rotating blades to throw the clippings to the center of the rear discharge deck? That's how the 42" decks that we sold were. There was a peerless 90 degree gearbox on top of each blade spindle with a shaft and pulley between them.

My neighbour has both 42 and 48" machines and yes they are the same . Only real difference is the length of the shafts and tubes between gear boxes and the blades and hp .

Bob you are correct about the CC and CCW blades. I checked tge 48” deck and they are that configuration. The dealer mentioned that the 52” had that configuration and never mentioned the 48”. Probably all rear discharge decks have the blades turning that way to aid in grass collection. I did take it out for a spin yesterday. Doing figure eights were easy to maneuver.

Congrats on the Walker.
Years ago when my folks bought their first I talked to the commercial landscaper nextdoor to my shop. They told me that not only did they obviously change the engine oil, but the hyro drives, and final drives. So that's what we did. Our use puts it at a yearly service, so it's not too big of a deal. Take the deck off, (cover the two deck mounting rods with rags) crawl it up car ramps, and you can get at everything. One of the hydro drives drains on some linkage which sucks, and pushing the gear oil back in the finals is no fun, but our machine still handles like new. Had to put a new engine on it after a whole lot of hours, but it still cuts everything.
Grease it... There are a lot of grease points... Really, a lot!
I did replace the 42" GHS deck with a 54" side discharge a year or so ago. My uncle and I decided we didn't need to collect sevearl acres of clippings every time we mow to turn in to compost any more...
Do not think you can go just a little longer when the squeaker goes off for a full hopper. If you try, you're going to have it back up down the chute. Not hard to clear really, but it's no fun reaching down there.
