Seems that these days, even if you see a good deal listed and respond within minutes, you need to make an offer above the asking price if you hope to get the item.
Agents have been using this method for most of the last decade. The listing goes on the market below the expected value to draw more eyes. Then, the buyers sometimes think they are the ones who see that it is below market and go over asking, thinking that it will get them a house. But, the listed price was never the target sale price. Just like the real estate market around our area. Offering way above the listing price is a foreign concept to me.
